“Yup.” Jamie gestured to the refrigerator. “I take it you didn’t look in there today yet.”

“No.” I shook my head. “I just made my tea and sat down.”

“Well, let me enlighten you on what wonderful things hide inside.”

Jamie started to bring out a few items from the fridge, and I felt my mood shift. Food really was the answer sometimes.

“Can you make me those little roll-up things your mom made that one time?” I tried to think of the name, but my pregnancy brain was in full force. “You know which ones I mean, right? The meat, cream cheese, tortilla ones?”

“I’ll whip them up right now.” Jamie winked and went to work. “Along with the Caramel Apple Salad I started two days ago. It should be fully ready by now.”

“You’re the best.” I blew my mate a kiss that he caught and pretended to put it into his shirt pocket.

“So has Isaac opened up to you, yet?” Jamie quirked a brow. “Thomas is still locked down like a prison. But it is so obvious that something is going on. Whenever they are around each other, they are either eying each other like they want to devour one another—”

“Or they’re avoiding each other’s eyes. I know.” I sighed and stretched my back, the growth of the pregnancy making my body ache all the time now. “I’m about to ask him straight out if they’re fucking.”

Jamie burst out laughing. “I know what you mean. But I don’t think they’d appreciate it.”

“Well, then, they’d better get it figured out soon because I have no patience this far along in this pregnancy.”

Jamie finished up the snacks and placed them in front of me, going back to the counter to grab his own plate of roll-ups and bowl of the fluffy dessert salad. “I haven’t made this before, so I’m sorry if it’s not as good as Mom’s.”

“I’m sure it will be delicious.” I wiggled in my seat a bit, excited to try the first bite.

“Dig in.” Jamie winked at me as he took his first spoonful of the concoction in the bowl. I had heard of the Caramel Apple Salad his mom made, but I still hadn’t tried it. Part of me was scared it would turn me off of lunch, but the other part of me was dreaming of how amazing it might be. As Jamie took the bite and closed his eyes, letting out a little moan of pure satisfaction, the positive side of me won, and I scooped up my first spoonful.

My taste buds exploded in joy as it hit my tongue. “Fuck, this is amazing.”

“It turned out as good as Mom’s.” Jamie shoveled more into his mouth.

Although we usually chatted during meals, this time passed with only sounds of enjoyment as we polished off not only our plates but what was left in the serving bowl.

“You might need to only make that on special occasions.” I pushed the dishes to the side and rested my forehead on the table. “If I ate that too frequently, I might never want to eat anything else and then grow too large for my pants.”

“I’ll only make it occasionally if that’s what you want.” Jamie leaned back in the chair and patted his belly. “It actually feels pretty good to make something yourself and have it come out so delicious.”

“You did great, baby.” I lifted my head just enough to pucker my lips. “I’ll kiss the chef after I take a post-snack nap, okay?”

“Deal.” Jamie rose from the chair and picked me up from my seat.

“Where are you taking me?” I lay my head on his shoulder, only half caring where we were headed. I could just fall asleep here in his arms, probably.

“To bed.”

The two-hour nap with my mate was a highlight of my week. Warmth cocooned us beneath the blankets. I had built a little fort in our bed. Piles of fluffy pillows, cuddly stuffed animals, and fuzzy fleece blankets had found their way onto the mattress. The four-poster bed allowed for me to craft a canopy above our heads and drape fabrics around the sides so that we essentially were hidden away in our very own den of tranquility. I loved to spend time in this space even when alone at home, while Jamie was at work. But while he was with me, it was a haven.

“Ready to get up?” Jamie placed several slow, tender kisses down the side of my neck between his rundown of options we could do for the day. “We could stay here and cuddle some more. Or there is a new romantic comedy showing at the theater on Main. Or there is a new Italian restaurant that opened a fewtowns over that has a bunch of critics raving. Or we could pack a picnic and go for a shift near Riverton Woods, there’s the little pond nearby that delivers a scenic view where we can eat. Do any of those options appeal to you?”

“They all are pretty tempting.” I stretched my neck to allow him better access. “Especially the one that requires us to stay in bed all day.”

“Hmm.” Jamie sniffed my mating mark, then gave it a languid lick. “How about we start with that one and then, if we feel up to it, go see the movie tonight? The theater is one of those with a full kitchen, so we can dine while we watch someone get their happily ever after.”

“That sounds like a perfect plan.” I closed my eyes and just let my body feel. Jamie continued to kiss my skin while his hand trailed over my side and down my stomach to my needy cock.

Yes. This was definitely the best plan.
