Naya tried to keep her eyes from the group, but they reminded her so much of Dutch that it made her heart ache.
Barb set a cup of coffee and a bowl with sugar packets and creamer by it.“I’ll be right back.”
“Thank you.”Naya added cream and several sugars, stirred, and lifted it to take a sip.She was surprised it tasted pretty good.
She had no idea how long she’d been daydreaming when Barb set a plate and a glass of juice in front of her.
Naya’s mouth dropped open. The large plate was filled with the special she talked about.“But...”
Barb held up a hand and grinned.“Stop, the meal is on the house.”
“I can’t let you do that,” Naya said.
Barb laughed.“It’s nothing, hun.The cook had most of it left over, and it would have been thrown away.”
Naya blinked several times to keep from crying.“Thank you.I really appreciate this.”
“No problem.”
A voice shouted from across the room.“Yo, Barb, get your ass over here and fill us up.”
Naya looked to see one of the bikers with his cup raised in the air.
Barb snorted.“Go ahead and eat.I’ll take care of them and check on you in a bit.”
“Thanks again.”
Naya watched her deal with the group as she ate.Maybe she’d found the town she was supposed to be in since she felt like she had already made a friend. It was something she didn’t have before.
Chapter Nine
Naya started to chokewhen two women dropped into the other side of the booth. She swallowed and took a sip of her juice.“Um, hi.”
“Hi.I’m Amelia, and this is Tara.”
“Oh, hi.I’m Naya.”
