A hand drifted to her mouth. “In Corron, when you said you knew where the stone was, you meant you knew how to get there.”

Dyna nodded. “The map is our secret. I couldn’t tell you before.”

“Why are you telling me now?” she finally said.

“I know what’s at risk and who you fight for.”

Lucenna curled her fingers around the medallion. “Now I understand why your companions are so defensive. I take it you asked me to make a dome because they don’t know you’re sharing this with me.”

“They wouldn’t want me to.”

“Perhaps you shouldn’t have.”

Dyna frowned. “You don’t wish to join us?”

“I don’t think I can. It would be too dangerous for you to stay near me.”

In reality, that fact was the other way around. It was more dangerous to be in their company because of Tarn. She opened her mouth to say so, but then closed it. Revealing that would discourage the sorceresses from uniting with them. Dyna didn’t want to scare Lucenna away. She enjoyed having her around.

“How did Azeran get a map to Mount Ida to begin with?” Lucenna asked.

“He went there himself. He recorded his vast knowledge of advanced spells and runes in a grimoire. During one of his travels, Captain Ida stole it. Azeran followed him, but after reaching the island, he let the grimoire be.”

“You’re risking your life for a spellbook?”

“No. I’m searching for the Sol Medallion. It’s the counterpart to yours.”

Lucenna’s white brows rose high on her forehead. “Reyes Fuego created it. The embedded sunstone contains dreadful power. Why do you want such a thing?”

Dyna looked at the dangling charms on the ceiling, listening to the moan of the wind. She thought of the forest surrounding her home and how the wind howled that winter night. “I need to annihilate a shadow demon.”

Lucenna stiffened, her throat bobbing. “Shadow demon?”

“It killed my family and many others. Soon it will return to kill again. It hunts in my village every ten years. The Sunstone is the only weapon that can defeat it.”

“Few would dare to face such a thing.”

But she had no choice. “I must save my sister.”

Lucenna’s expression softened. “I didn’t know you had a sister. How old is she?”

“Lyra is nine years old, smart and sweet.” Dyna’s eyes misted again. She missed her so much.

Lucenna smiled at that. “I hadn’t thought to ask if you had more family.”

“I have Grandmother Leyla and Zev, of course.”

“Zev?”

“Yes, he’s my cousin on my father’s side.”

Lucenna’s hand drifted to her mouth, her eyes widening. “He’s family?”

“Yes, he’s also an Astron.” Dyna laughed, remembering how Cassiel reacted when they told him. “I consider him a brother.”

The sorceress glanced past her and winced. “Well, I believe yourbrotheris angry with you at the moment.”

She turned to find the men standing at the tent entrance. Rawn rubbed his forehead. Zev’s wide yellow eyes stared at her. Cassiel’s expression was as hard as stone, his anger swarming through her head. He motioned for her to get out of the dome. Lucenna waved a hand and dropped the spell.
