Shit, no. Haze is gonna be out here in two seconds.

“I really have to get to a meeting,” I say, steering him toward the door. “Why don’t I walk you out and we can talk?—”

I hear the door click behind me and close my eyes. He didn’t. He wouldn’t.

Connor turns, his eyes bugging out of his head. “You?”

I glance down as Haze zips up his fly, then adjusts his belt… his shirt or cut nowhere to be seen. “Honey, raincheck for lunch?Unless you’d like another round of hide the salami with yourhusband?”

Oh. My. God.

“Um,” I start. “Connor, this isn’t what it looks like.”

“I’ll talk to you some other time,” Connor says, turning back to me in disgust. “I can see you’re busy here. I, uh, nevermind.”

“Connor…” But he’s already out the door.

I turn back to Haze. “Did you have to do that to him?”

He shrugs. “Well, you weren’t doin’ a very good job gettin’ rid of him, babe.” He glances at the desk, seeing the flowers at the same time as I do. “Clearly.”

“Get out of my office,” I tell him.

He shakes his head. “Can’t. I’m on the job now,Captain. And I think today is going to be fuckin’ glorious.”

CHAPTER

THIRTEEN

Haze

Willow looks furious. While I’m glad to hear that she and what’s-his-face are no longer an item, I still don’t like him just popping in here unannounced. Especially after she just dumped him. It’s a little presumptuous, and it’s making me want to hunt him down and punch him in the face.

Still, the way he looked pissed off — then scared — was enough for me to feel temporary satisfaction.

“Glorious?” She looks so sweet when she’s furious.

“Yeah, what do you care? You just dumped the guy, who, by the way, shouldn’t be gettin’ access to you this easily.”

“I forgot to tell the guys we’re not dating anymore,” she says, her hand still on the door.

I dust her hair back off one side of her face. “No time like the present.”

She knocks my hand away. “I can’t believe you just did that.”

“Wejust did that.”

“Don’t be a smartass.”

I thumb behind me. “Don’t blame me. You’re the one who dragged me in there.”

“Did you really have to say that to him? Jesus, Haze. I was trying to let him down gently, and you come bulldozing in here with absolutely no filter.”

I shrug. “Why not? Sounded like the asshole just isn’t gettin’ the hint.” I give her a pointed look.

Her eyes widen as she points at me. “Don’t even think about it.”

I feign innocence. “About what?”
