"I called in a favor," I gritted out.
"With who?"
"Doesn’t matter."
"I thought you wanted to be partners, Callum."Her voice was light, but there was a steely undertone that brought me back to the conversation the night before.
The threat she’d given me.
She would seal the mate bond with me because she thought she had to, but she wouldn’t guarantee her loyalty unless we were equals.
Fuck.
I hadn’t wanted her to know, but I wasn’t going to lie to her. "The favor was Elle’s help with your business."
Kat blinked. "Oh. What did she want from you, originally?"
"A business deal I didn’t want to make. It cost me a fair amount of money, but it improved her reputation."
I eased Kat’s shorts back up her legs and looked at the clock.
3:23.
Shit.
"We need to leave, Kitten."
"You should probably wash your face."
"Would a male werewolf?"
She flushed. "No. Come here." As she said the words, she pulled her face to mine. "This doesn’t mean anything."
"Okay…"
Kat leaned in and dragged her tongue over my lips. Then my chin. And around my mouth. Licking her pleasure off my skin.
My grip on the edge of the countertop was ridiculously tight as I fought off a climax tooth and nail.
At the current rate, this woman would be my end sooner, rather than later.
Kat looked at the clock too. "Crap."
We were driving away a minute later.

Nausea satin my stomach like a rock when Callum pulled into the Orchard's overflowing parking lot.
Not because of what we’d done together. That was fun.
Not because we were almost going to be late, either.
I was nauseous because I was about to see my sister for the first time in five years, and I had no idea how it would go.
A dude who was somehow even bigger than Callum sat on a motorcycle between two empty parking spaces, and waved us over when we got there. I recognized him from pictures on the internet.
