"I'll work on it," Kat told Liv, as she rose to her feet.

Merrily did too.

"Can I catch a ride?" Merrily asked, her arms wrapped around herself for support. "I don't think I can drive right now."

"I've got you," Liv agreed.

"You can come with us, if you don't want to be deafened and potentially killed by Liv's driving," Kat put in.

"Don't make me hit you with my magic." Liv held a hand out threateningly, as if she needed her palm to wield her power.

I pushed her hand away from my mate as I stood, maneuvering Kat around me.

Merrily picked Liv's passenger seat over our back seat, and we all headed out.

The walk to the pit was uneventful, and we all acted like we didn't notice Liv scanning the crowd for Jonah as we made our way toward our seats.

Grayson Darke met us on the path before we reached the chairs, his expression impassive as he looked straight at Merrily, who was at the front of our group.

"A word, Love?" he asked, his voice low enough that none of the other members of the Cabinet would be able to hear, including Darius.

"No thanks." She tried to step past him, but he stopped her with a hand to her arm.

I would've intervened... but she needed to figure things out with him.

His eyes narrowed. "Please."

It wasn't a question.

Merrily narrowed her eyes back.

Liv threw her arm over Grayson's shoulder.

He stiffened, his shadows recoiling from the wild, buzzing energy that undoubtedly accompanied her touch.

I fought back a snort. Kat bit her lip to hide a smile.

"Darke, we all know you can't get enough of our little Mer, but if you don't want us to kill you, I'd suggest letting go of her arm," Liv drawled.

Grayson's jaw clenched, but he slowly released her.

"Mer was just telling me how she's been having a hard time sleeping, but I'm sure she'll be turning in around eight tonight. Right?" Liv looked at Merrily, who nodded reluctantly.

"Great. Lovely chat." Grayson forced a smile and removed Liv's arm from his shoulders before striding back to his seat.

"What the fuck was that about?" Dare muttered, as Merrily took her seat next to him.

"Nothing," Mer murmured. "It's fine."

"Can I kill him yet?"

"Unfortunately, my answer is still no."

Darius clenched his jaw and looked back out at the pit.

So he was more involved in this situation than we had realized.

I supposed that made sense, given the way they helped each other with their power.
