It was kind of fun messing with Major in the beginning, but if I had cursed him when he tried to talk, I would have said something I couldn’t take back.

“Well, we are past that now.” I smiled and took a sip of my water.

Major sat back in his seat and drank some of his water, too.

After a few seconds passed, Major sat up with elbows on the table.

“I have a confession.”

My heart pounded in my chest because I felt like he was about to tell me he had a wife or girlfriend at home.

“Oh Lord.”

“Calm down.” He chuckled. “I was afraid to ask you where you lived in case we lived in different states. Then, I realized it didn’t matter where you were; I would find a way to see you.”

My chest squeezed as my heart stopped for a quick second.

“Whew.” I wiped the imaginary sweat from my forehead, and Major chuckled. “Not going to lie, I was afraid to ask you, too. Don’t ask me why. To answer the question, I live in Sunrise Valley.”

“Get the fuck out of here.” Major’s eyes widened as he chuckled and shook his head.

The waitress returned with our food, so Major sat back so she could put the plates down, but his widened eyes hadn’t left me.

“Do you guys need anything else?”

“No. We’re good. Thanks.” Major responded for both of us. “Tumy, I fucking live in Sunrise Valley, too. How the hell have we never run into each other?”

I couldn’t believe we lived in the same town this whole time. It was also weird that we hadn’t met before, but Sunrise Valley was kinda big.

“I guess it wasn’t the right time.”

“Shit, we definitely have to see where this thing goes once we leave. I believe it’s destined to be.”

I didn’t want to read too much into what he said, but I also didn’t want to waste my time with someone who wasn’t trying to build a future together.

“What exactly does that mean for you?” I asked as I cut a piece of the lambchop lollipop on my plate. It came served with roasted vegetables and mashed potatoes. There was also a side of tzatziki sauce.

Major took his time responding as he chewed his food. I was glad that he didn’t rush to answer, because I didn’t want him to say what he thought I wanted to hear.

He wiped his mouth, then leaned forward again. His gaze was trained on me.

“It means that we date, spend time with each other, and no one else. I have no problem using my gun, Tumy. Please don’t get anybody killed,” he said with finality.

His voice didn’t waver, and his eyes never left mine. Major meant what he said, and I felt that fact flow through my body. My thighs squeezed together under the table. I shouldn’t have been aroused, but the look in his eyes couldn’t be missed.

“I’m not thinking about anyone else.” I leaned forward on my elbows. “I just need you to know that I may not use a gun, but don’t get anybody beat up.”

The left side of Major’s lip lifted in a sly grin.

“You know you just made my dick hard right?” He adjusted himself under the table, and I laughed loudly. “On some real shit, Tumy. I’m not trying to play games with your heart. I’m in this thing with you, and hopefully it only progresses from here.”

I nodded and raised my glass. “To us.”

“To us.”

We clinked glasses and continued talking for another hour before we headed back to the cabin.

The minute we got inside, Major carried me over to the fireplace, where he spent the night buried deep inside of me.
