I chuckled. “Never cooked for anyone besides my mother and grandmother.”
Tumy looked like she didn’t believe me, but that was the truth. My cooking skills weren’t something I wanted to share with just anybody.
“I’m flattered.”
“As you should be.” I winked. Tumy had me feeling things I thought I could never feel again, and it hadn’t been that long.
“Anyway.” She rolled her eyes. “Thanks again for feeding Sparrow and for this good breakfast.”
“You’re welcome.” Once we were done eating, we cleaned the kitchen together, then moved into the living room to watch movies for the rest of the day.
Tumy snuggled up next to me, and I wanted to stay in this bubble forever, but I knew it wasn’t possible.
“I know you came out here because you wanted to be alone for Valentine’s Day, and you don’t really care to celebrate it, but I wanted to give you a better memory.” I lifted her chin and softly kissed her lips.
“Thank you,” she whispered. “It has been a peaceful day, and I appreciate you for not making a big deal out of it.”
Our time was almost over, and I wasn’t sure how I would be able to say goodbye to her.
I hatedthat Major made me feel things I didn’t expect to feel. The weekend was supposed to be about me escaping the world and resetting myself. Instead, I’d fucked around and fallen for a man I would probably never see again. Major had a lot of good qualities about him. I loved waking up to him, but it was too soon to feel like that.
When I woke up in the morning, his side of the bed was empty. I didn’t hear any noise in the front of the house, so I called Mariah to see if she could help me make sense of the thoughts I had.
“Hello,” she answered on the second ring.
“You weren’t busy, were you?” I sat up against the headboard.
“No. I have some time to talk. What’s wrong?”
Sparrow jumped up on the bed, so I rubbed his head. I figured Major fed him for me since he was so relaxed.
“I think I’m in love, or at least close to it.”
Mariah gasped, then whispered something to her husband. I heard her moving around, then it got quiet on her end.
“Why do you sound sad about it?”
I closed my eyes and bit my bottom lip.
“Because I don’t know if it would work outside of here. It’s one thing to be trapped in our little bubble, but he could be a totally different person in the real world.”
“Or he could be the exact same. I understand your fear, but don’t let it ruin the rest of the time you two have together. You know what I say, what’s meant to be will be. There is nothing that’s going to stop what God put together.”
“God probably isn’t pleased with how I been bussing it open for this man.” A shiver ran through my body when I thought about the ways Major took control over my body the night before. Each time I thought he was done, he would do something else and make me scream to the high heavens.
Mariah cackled in my ear. “He knows you are still a work in progress. On a serious note, get out of your head and enjoy it.”
Sparrow jumped off my lap and ran out of the room when the front door opened. I assumed he was going to greet Major or hide from him.
“I think he’s coming,” I whispered.
“Okay. I’ll talk to you later. Stop worrying so much. Love you.” She blew a kiss through the phone and hung up.
Major entered the room with Sparrow in his arms.
“I see you two are well acquainted.” I teased Major as he walked over to the bed.
He put Sparrow on the floor, then leaned down to kiss my lips.
