I quietly slid out of bed and walked over to the window. The sun had come out and had slowly melted the snow. I was disappointed because I wanted to be trapped with her as long as possible. Since the storm had passed, I knew our time would end soon.

After walking away from the window, I left the bedroom to go to the bathroom and get ready for the day.

“Hey, little buddy. Your mom is still sleeping.” I rubbed the top of the cat’s head. I couldn’t believe I was talking to a cat like he understood what I said. I shook my head when he rubbed his body against my leg.

I went into the bathroom to relieve myself, then went into the kitchen to feed Sparrow. I watched Tumy the day before, so it was simple. Once the cat was squared away, I went back to the bathroom so I could wash up and brush my teeth.

Twenty minutes later, I peeked in on Tumy, and she was still asleep, so I went to the kitchen to get breakfast ready.

Sparrow sat near the entryway of the kitchen like he was waiting for something. I noticed he only entered the kitchen when it was time for him to eat; other than that, he was everywhere else in the house. I liked that Tumy didn’t have him in the kitchen all the time. I also noticed he didn’t shed like a lot of cats I’d encountered.

I had a taste for French toast, so I grabbed the ingredients for it as well as the pack of bacon. There was some orange juice, so I poured two glasses and put them on the table.

I walked back to the counter and prepared the batter to make the French toast.

“Good morning. Why didn’t you wake me?” Tumy asked, then let out a yawn.

I turned around and pulled her into me when she got close. I leaned down and kissed her lips. “Because you were tired, and I’m capable of making breakfast.” I kissed her again. I could smell the mint toothpaste on her breath. She wore a scarf over her hair, with matching pajamas.

Her cheeks reddened, and she looked down where Sparrow’s bowl was.

“Did you feed Sparrow?”

A smile spread across my face. “I did.”

Tumy’s eyes stretched, and she wrapped her arms around my neck. “Thank you.” She pecked my lips, then removed her arms. “What’s for breakfast?” She peeked around me to look at the counter.

“French toast and bacon. I wish we had some Texas toast, but this bread will suffice.” Texas toast was thicker and better for French toast in my opinion, but regular bread did the trick when needed.

“Do you need me to help you with anything?”

“No, ma’am. I got this.” I tapped her nose, then pulled out the chair for her.

She cut her eyes at me but sat down. “I hope you know what you are doing.”

“Prepared to have your mind blown.” I winked at her, then went to the stove to fix the food.

Tumy kept me occupied by telling me how she got into skin care. I learned it was something she was interested in since she was a teenager. She briefly talked about some plans she had for her business but didn’t want to elaborate too much because she didn’t want to jinx it. I was a firm believer in moving in silence, so I was cool with her not telling me too much.

It didn’t take long for the food to get finished. I made both of our plates, then brought them to the table.

“Happy Valentine’s Day,” I told her as I placed the plate in front of her. I knew she wasn’t a fan of the day, but I still wanted to tell her.

Tumy paused for a second as she looked at the plate. “Happy Valentine’s Day. This looks good.”

If I could have, I would have gotten her some flowers or something, but since the ground was still covered in snow, any flowers that were planted were dead.

“Taste it.” I cut a piece of mine but looked at Tumy to catch her reaction.

She cut a piece of her toast, dipped it in syrup, and then put it into her mouth. She slowly chewed it, then released a low moan.

I put my piece in my mouth, and I had to give myself a pat on the back because it was good as hell.

“You definitely surprised me. I don’t think I ever had French toast that tasted this good. What’s the secret?” She popped another piece in her mouth.

“I can’t tell you that.”

Tumy sucked her teeth but continued to eat. “I’m sure you cook for all the women in your life.”
