Not that I was in love with Asmoday.I mean, I might be in love with his dick.
It was a damned impressive dick.If not love, I could certainly see myself becoming addicted to it.And maybe the rest of him too.
Ugh.I needed to stop with all the sappy bullshit. This was just sex, for the love of Lilith. And even though he’d promised, there was no guarantee we’d do it again.Asmoday was a lust demon, and that was not how they rolled. Not to mention, hello, I had zero interest in tying myself down to anyone, magic dick or no.
Frankly, being associated with me was dangerous for one’s health.Any demons coming after me on my dad’s behalf would have no qualms about destroying whoever might get in their way.
The counter shivered, like the ground underneath was moving.
“What was that?”I demanded.
“Fault zone,” Asmoday mumbled against my chest.“The town was built over a small one.The ground sometimes shifts and moves and then settles again.”
Oh, fire and brimstone.Did this have something to do with the hellmouth?Did that mean?—
“It’s not the hellmouth,” Asmoday said, as if he could read my thoughts.Or, more likely, my suddenly tense body language.
I decided to take his word on it.I wasn’t in the mood to stress over, well, anything at all at the moment.I just wanted to sit here with him tucked between my legs, hugging me and?—
“Asmoday? Are you out here?Your brisket smells delicious, as usual?—”
I jerked upright, shoved Asmoday away.
All that did was push his magic dick out of me and leave us both on full display when he turned around to face whoever had interrupted our postcoital bliss.
Shit.
Selina stood in the kitchen doorway, her eyes overlarge as they roamed first over me and then Asmoday, lingering, I could not help but notice, on that magic dick of his.
And then she screamed.
ChapterEleven
Asmoday
“This is ridiculous,” I muttered as River strode my way.He was coming from the coffee shop.I was hiding around the corner, out of sight, so Selina didn’t realize the coffee was for me.
And Daruka.
After he handed me the to-go cups, I’d slip behind the buildings and enter my own home through the back door, where Krishna would be waiting to hurry Daruka’s steaming cup of caffeine upstairs to her.
Yeah, I’d resorted to bribing my friends to bring me coffee the morning after Selina caught Daruka and I post-best moments of my lifeand had drawn exactly the right conclusion.
Hard not to, when we were both naked and the scent of sex hung in the air as heavily as the smoked meat cooking away on the edge of the patio.
Now she refused to let either one of us anywhere near her coffee shop. And I’d never been very good in the coffee-making department.
Turned out, Daruka wasn’t good at it either, and yet insisted she desperately needed a fix to start her day.
If she’d let me close enough, I had a few creative ways to ease her morning tension that I suspected would work as well as if not better than a hit of caffeine, but she’d retreated again after Selina screamed and alerted the entire damn town that we’d banged on the back porch.
I blamed these thoughts for me not realizing River’s hands were empty until he was standing before me.
I blinked.
He shrugged.“She isn’t there.Shop’s locked up.”
“What do you mean? She’s always there first thing in the—well, it isn’t first thing, but still. That coffee shop is always open until midafternoon.”
