“We just want to leave,” Skye said, and then she smiled. “Okay with you gentlemen?”
The kneecapped dude made a whimpering sound, but none of them moved. Edge ushered Skye to the door, and they stepped out into the night. No one followed.
“No idea why that felt so good,” Skye said.
“It’s been a while. Maybe you needed the practice.”
“Maybe,” she said with a grin.
His gaze ran down her body. “How’s your leg?”
“I’m wearing my brace.” She smiled as she climbed into the truck. “It feels just fine.”
Ten minutes later, they were back in the cabin, both of them still pumped. A hot look passed between them. There was something about standing up to a challenge and winning that heated your blood.
Edge reached for her at the same time Skye stepped into his arms. His hand slid into her thick dark hair to anchor her in place as his mouth crushed down over hers. The kiss was hot, wet, and deep. He told himself it didn’t mean anything. It was just the heat of battle that had them both desperate for release.
“We don’t have time for this,” he said when they came up for air.
“We’ll have to hurry.” Skye reached for his belt buckle, then unzipped his fly while Edge unfastened her jeans. In seconds, her boots were gone and her jeans with them. A wet kiss kept them both occupied while Edge eased her panties down over her brace, turned her around, and bent her over the arm of the sofa.
Skye moaned and arched her back, and Edge took her deep. He took her hard, and she came the same way, groaning his name as she reached release. He didn’t have time to wait, just gripped her hips and followed, his own release mind-blowingly intense.
Drawing her back against him, he held her while they drifted down again. He kissed the nape of her neck, and Skye turned into his arms, her face flushed, her pretty breasts still quivering.
“We . . . umm . . . have to go get Lila,” she said.
“I know.” Already wanting more of her, he kissed her one last time and let her go. “We need to make a plan.”
CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX
EDGE MADE A CRUDE SKETCH OF THE PROPERTY LAYOUT ON THEside of a cardboard box he found in the trash and tore apart. The drawing showed the house and garage, the bunkhouse, and what was left of the dilapidated barn.
“I’ll fit the drone with night vision, and we’ll locate each man’s position. With any luck, at least some of them will be asleep in the bunkhouse.”
“Henson might post guards,” Skye said.
“Could be. With Stella dead, the sheriff may come sniffing around looking for leads. Henson will figure on that.”
“The sheriff probably won’t come at night.”
“Probably not. At least not as late as we’ll be going in.” Three to four a.m., prime time for a snatch-and-grab. Which, at this point, was the mission. They needed to get Lila out before she ended up as dead as Stella.
They talked through the details, but the plan had to remain fluid until they had more intel. They loaded their gear into the bed of the pickup beneath the tonneau cover and headed out a little before midnight. That gave them roughly three hours to collect information and figure out how to get Lila out without getting anyone killed—including themselves.
Not that he’d feel a lot of remorse if one of Henson’s stone-cold killers strayed into the line of fire. They’d murdered Sarah Simmons and Stella Walker and buried them like heaps of trash.
Still, killing them wasn’t his job. Not anymore. If everything went as planned, they could notify the DEA, let them handle Henson and his men.
Maybe the feds wouldn’t botch the takedown this time.
As before, the drone was invaluable. From what Edge could see on the iPad screen, there was only one man standing guard. He patrolled the area around the house, staying some distance away, mainly keeping an eye on the road.
Two more men were asleep in the bunkhouse. He wondered if Beekman was one of them. The guy might have fallen out of favor when he’d murdered his common-law wife.
No way to know for sure.
The drone displayed a swamp-green image of a man in each upstairs bedroom. In a larger room at the other end of the hall, two images shared the same bed, presumably Henson and Lila.
