“That makes no fucking sense.”
“No, itdoesmake sense. That’s the issue. And if we want to live that life, we gotta play by the rules.”
A disgusted growl bubbled up my throat. This shit was too much before I’d had my first cigarette, and I needed a piss.
I stomped to the bathroom. Cleaned myself up and returned to find Rubi in bed again. “Are you staying there all day?”
Rubi patted the bed beside him. “Queen’s orders. You’re knackered, so you ain’t allowed out till tonight.”
“Out of bed?”
“She wasn’t specific, but I like this bed, and she told me to sit on you if I had to, so...”
For fuck’s sake. I ditched most of my clothes and slid under the covers.
Rubi rolled over to face me, shirtless and wearing a pair of joggers so old I couldn’t recall if they were mine, his, or Cam’s. “Have you been fucking in this bed?”
“Today? No.”
“Not what I meant.”
My eyes had drifted shut. I forced them open with a heavy sigh. “Then be specific. Knackered, remember? And I’m too thick for your clever shit at the best of times.”
Rubi cocked a brow. Of every hill he fought me on, this was the one he liked to die on the most. “You’re not thick any more than Mats is. You’re numericallydyslexic. Do I need to tattoo it on your head?”
“Wouldn’t see it there, would I?”
“On your dick then.”
“If you like.” At this point, I didn’t care. He could ink my dick if he wanted. As long as I could still—
Oh fuck, no. I fought to clear my mind of all things Orla andLocke. Life was complicated enough without popping wood around Rubi.
Crow assassins.
Russian mobsters.
Bear the Cunt.
Yup. That’d do it.
Rubi was still eyeballing me.
I shoved his shoulder. “Leave me alone.”
He didn’t budge. “Nopety nope. You’ve got me all day. And you didn’t answer my question.”
“About what?”
“About what you’ve been up to with your woman’s super-fly bodyguard.”
“You didn’t ask me that.”
“All right. I’m asking you now.”
“Why?”
“Because the three of you light a wet puddle on fire when you’re in the same room.” Rubi fucked with the pillow under my head and tucked the sheets around my shoulders, the gesture as sweet as it was annoying. “Also, I’m a nosy bastard.”
