Twin2:love u

He didn’t reply either. Which left me Willow to deal with.

Dad:you can’t drive mum’s car. it’s too big. i’ll sort you out something else xx

My phone rang, buzzing up a storm, Willow’s face flashing up on the screen.

Nash flinched, rolling over with a groan. I swung a leg out of his bed, but he caught me before I got too far, clamping an inked hand on my hip, pushing me back down.

Stay.

He tugged a pillow over his head, shutting me out, or giving me some semblance of privacy, maybe.

Either way, it was hard to tell if he was really awake.

Either way,I rubbed his back, the nape of his neck, sliding my fingers into those hidden golden curls as I answered the call from my kid. “Don’t shout. I’m indoors.”

Willow huffed. “I wasn’t going to shout.”

“Really? Who are you then? Cosmykid blows my fuckin’ eardrums off every time I answer the phone.”

“Maybe I wouldn’t if you answered the phone more often.”

Touché. But my girl kept hours as odd as mine, and sometimes it worked out. Others we couldn’t seem to match up for weeks at a time. “You can’t drive Mum’s car. The engine is too big.”

“But she said I can.”

“She didn’t know.”

“And you told her?Dad. Why?”

“Because I don’t want your mum stuck with a massive insurance bill, and I don’t wantyoudriving a car you can’t control.”

“I’m a good driver.”

“It’s not about you, Wills, it’s the car.”

Another huff rattled down the line. “I was going to come and see you.”

“Where?”

“At the new club. That’s where you live, isn’t it?”

The new club. As if I’d ever let her within spitting distance of the old one, and yet somehow, the worst parts of the Dog Crows had found my kids anyway.

Do as you’re told, Halliwell. Or I’ll find that pretty girl of yours and—

Nash dug his fingers into my hip. The pillow still covered his face, but somehow he saw me.

I took a quiet, deep breath. “You can come to the club. But not in Mum’s car, okay? In your own car. A small one, with a tiny engine.”

“When?”

“Soon.”

“You always say that about everything.”

“And I’m never lying. Just give me a few days. I’m fetching Nicky from school on Wednesday if I can borrow a car. You want me to pick you up from college after?”
