“Miss me?”

He grins. “Never knew how much till I met ya.”

“That a line from a song?”

“Probably. All the best ones are. I should probably warn you that I’m a rowdy sleeper. My tics go mad when I’m out for the count. I legit might punch you.”

“I’m sure you won’t.”

“Well, if I do, just kick me out. I’ll probably sleepwalk across the hall.”

Not happening. But I don’t get the chance to tell him because he’s already falling asleep. I watch his eyes grow heavy. Watch him fight it and lose with his fading grin. For a minute or so, all is quiet. Then his body comes alive, shivering and twitching.

Jolting.

He rolls onto his back. I lay my palm on his chest. He covers it with his own and I slide a little closer. His body heat is everything. It takes me a while to fall asleep, but when I do, my dreams are sweet.

Knocking wakes me up. Then I feel the distinct sensation of someone behind me, curved around my back, molded to my spine.Kai.He’s asleep, I can tell, his face buried in my neck, but there’s no time to enjoy it cos there’s somedickheadat the door, and I don’t want Kai to wake up.

I extricate myself from his arms and slip out of his room, closing the door behind me. Then I stomp down the hall and throwthatdoor open, ready to deck whoever’s on the other side.

Tanner meets my murderous scowl with a wave of his dark brows. “Mornin’.”

“Is it? Feels like arse o’clock to me.”

“Maybe you should’ve scheduled our meeting in the afternoon, then.”

Meeting. Fuck.It rings a bell, but it’s a tiny, shitty bell that tells me nothing I need to know, except that I’ve forgotten something Tanner has remembered, and nowIlook like the dickhead.

Awesome. I wave him inside. He steps over the threshold and leaves his shoes at the door before following me to the kitchen.

I light the flame beneath the kettle on autopilot.

He leans on the counter and grins. “Jax does that.”

“What?”

“Makes tea before he’s fully awake.”

“I’m awake.”

“Dude, you have pillow lines on your face.”

Kai’s pillow. I open a cabinet to hide my smile. “Busted. You want one?”

“Tea?”

“Nah, magic love potion.”

“I’m good, thanks. I brought the menu mockups.”

Tanner hands me a stack of sample menus. They’re all horrible and he laughs. “You don’t like them either?”

“Who else has impeccable taste?”
