“Course he is. But that doesn’t matter if you’ve buried their president, does it? They’ll have other shit to worry about.”
“The Sambini clan is more concerning, but I can keep them at bay.”
“How?”
I smiled again. “I have something they want.”
Realisation dawned in Saint’s green eyes. “You didn’t kill their man?”
“Not exactly.”
Saint’s gaze turned thoughtful. He seemed to have forgotten he was touching me, his hands still gripping my shoulders, and I wasn’t displeased about it.
I liked it.
The only thing missing was Cam.
Saint took a breath. “Do you know who the Sambinis are working for?”
“Not yet.”
“Can you find out?”
“Yes, but it is not a simple phone call. It will take time and resources I did not think I would need again. Time I will need to be away from Cam.”
“I have no idea who you are.”
I let the malevolence fade from my face. “You don’t. And perhaps you should not ever find out, but you should trust me. I love Cam and I will not let this hurt him anymore.”
I love him. It seemed louder in my head than the words I’d spoken, but Saint heard me.
He believed me. “How long will you be gone?”
“I do not know.”
“Will you be safe?”
“Sometimes.”
“He’ll come looking for you, if shit doesn’t get too wild here.”
“He’ll try, but you will distract him. He will need that, I think. He will need you.”
Saint glanced to the door again. We were running out of time. “Why can’t we tell him that you’re helping us?”
“You know why.” I made myself duck out of Saint’s hold. “Because he will want to protect me too, and he can’t afford another distraction.” Footsteps sounded outside the door. I pushed Saint towards the bathroom. “Go. Shower. Then I will show you how to keep him busy all night long.”

Cam
Leaving Saint and Alexei alone felt like planting a bomb and misplacing the detonator. After being accosted by Nash and Rubi in the bar, I took the stairs two at a time and jogged to my closed bedroom door.
Silence greeted me, but with these two, even separate, that shit was deadly.
Together?
Fuck. I wasn’t built for the rush that gave me.
