“Or what? What, huh? Will you lock me in the basement again? You're a piece of shit and I'm glad Mom's not here to see your fucking face.” His face turns crimson and I know it won’t take him much to pass out. “I gave up on her once because of you. I dare you to have a say in my life again.” I let him go as he coughs and gasps for air. “You'll regret each time you've laid a hand on her.”

“I don't know what that bitch…”

I see red and my fist meets his face in no time.

“You'll regret it, Christopher. She isn't good enough to even suck my dick.” He spits his blood on the floor with a mocking face.

I don’t give a fuck anymore.

Fuck the plan.

Fuck the consequences.

Fuck him.

I throw myself at him. “You fucking bastard.”

Viola tries to stop me, but I don’t stop.

“Chis, please.” Leila's voice makes me spin around. “I'm not worth all of this.”

“She's not. I won't fight for a piece of pussy!” Dad says. My fist meets his nose as he cries in pain while falling on the ground. The guards hurry into the kitchen but back off when they see me.

“We'll leave for Valle Verde tonight,” I snap as I take Leila's hand and drag her out of the kitchen. She didn't need to see it. I kick the door of Nicholas' bedroom open and I place her on the bed. “Do you feel like packing your stuff?”

She nods. I shift my gaze peering around the room as I notice in the mirror on the floor something familiar.

“Tell me you haven't been chained.” Her eyes fill with tears and that is the response I never wanted to hear.

I'm done.

I'm fucking done.

I kneel in front of her and force her to look at me. “Pack whatever you want to take, we'll be out in ten minutes.”

“He won't let me go; he owns me.”

I shake my head as I shed her tears off. “No one owns you, Leila. If you want me to drop you at your parents’ or friends’, that's okay. I'm giving your life back. From now on you're free to do whatever you want, got it?”

She nods and I get out of the room. I pick up the phone and call Ferdinando. La Sacra Corona needs to know everything. I fucked up with them and I’ll face the consequences but now, now Leila needs her life back.

CHAPTER 9

LEILA

Idon't even know what it means to be free anymore. Two years have canceled everything in my life. I couldn't sleep, eat or drink without asking permission and only when it was granted. Nicholas made sure for everyone to know I'm his, and my friends disappeared. Mom died shortly after since she was sick, and last year Dad took his life. I'm alone. A broken shell of the person I was and I can't see a future for me. Not anymore. The man I've fallen for will never reciprocate my feelings. I've been told so many times that I'm worth nothing that I guess it's true.

The hustle and bustle is deafening, and I approach the door. Christopher is marching out his room while pulling on his shirt as some guards are spreading some liquid around. Is it gas?

“You're ready?” He stops in front of me with his suitcases. I nod in response as he cocks a brow at me. “Your bag? Cell phone? Passport?”

“Mr. Bonetti has my passport and documents. As for the rest, I have nothing.”

He walks me downstairs and then out of the manor. There are plenty of cars driving away and Chris opens his SUV door for me. “Get in. I'll be back in a second.”

Watching Christopher going back into the house, my stomach knots. I have a bad feeling and I don't want him to do anything stupid. I get out of the car and follow him. Some guards are running out and some help the personnel to leave the house. Chris talks with a guard while both face me.

“I told you to wait in the car.” He whistles, getting everyone’s attention.
