"Will you be there at the conference?" Matthew asks.
"Sure, usually the first presentation is always on me, after which it will all be on Jack's shoulders."
"It's not fair, Angel, you said you took care of them. I'm overloaded with work. I wouldn't be able to take care of them too."
Rolling my eyes I start playing with my bracelet to calm down. "Okay…I'll leave you all my contacts and I'll be reachable at any hour."
The guys read the contract and I lean on the table leaving them all the time they need while I talk to Jack.
"So tell me, how was the trip?"
"Europe was fantastic, and I have a few more singers I want you to hear."
"Ha! Since when? You always choose the best," he says but my attention is focused elsewhere. "What's going on, Angel? You look angry."
"Nothing," I reply, feeling Matthew's eyes on me. I turn and stare at him shaking my head. I take my cell phone and leave the office.
"Angel, where are you going?"
"I will be right back!" I say slamming the door.
I take a couple of breaths, I'm angry, disappointed. This situation reminds me of Damian and I’ve learned the lesson in the bad way possible. I promised to myself not to date with a coworker, ever, but life has a weird sense of humor.
Me:how could you! I can't believe you did it, I trusted you!
I texted him. The three dots do not take long to appear.
Matt:What the hell does that mean?
Me:You lied to me Matthew!
Matt:What the fuck are you saying? Angel I need to talk to you, where are you?
Me:Away from you. Where I was supposed to be yesterday and where I will be from now on.
I go to the office trying to calm down, I have a meeting to close. Walking back and forth doesn't help me calm down, I just want to scream. I'm just a fool!
"Yes, she's inside but she doesn't want to be disturbed." I hear Lilly's voice, but the door swings open and closes violently.
"I didn't lie to you! I told you who I was last night, and you didn't believe me." He approaches but I take a step back. "You can't, Angel, you can't really believe I used you. I fucking didn't even know who you were until this morning!"
"Really, Matthew? So now you're going to tell me you didn't even know Lux is my club!"
"Of course not! We always go there. Angel, we were all there last night to celebrate the call from your studio. I didn't know it was you. I swear to you, baby. Seeing you last night was like living again after years. I’ve never been so attracted to a woman," he says, short of breath. "Please Angel, you can't really think I'm such a piece of shit that used you.” I look at him and I can see he's sincere. "I told you I had a meeting with a record company this morning."
"Yes, but I thought you were saying so to get into my panties!"
"Baby," he approaches, "lies never lead to anything good. And to be honest, you never told me who you were." He hugs me and I relax, inhaling his cologne. Yes, he's right, I didn't say who I was, but I didn't hide it either.
"I'm sorry." He kisses my forehead. "Seeing you angry, hurts."
"We have to get back to the meeting," I say moving away from him. I need a moment to recover.
Matthew nods. "Are we all right?" he asks with his hand on the doorknob. "I don't want you to have unfounded doubts, Angel. I don't like lies and believe me I never imagined seeing you here today."
"I believe you," I whisper and before opening the door he kisses me.
"Let's go then."
