The elevator opens directly on her floor. A penthouse with a spectacular view. She heads to the kitchen as the notes of my song play in the house. I smile as I hear her humming and lean against the wall watching her pour us some wine.
"Do you like this song?" I ask her.
"Yes, it's a new group with a lot of potential," she says, taking off her heels.
"Really? Have you ever seen them, or do you know them?"
"Unfortunately no, I first heard them last month. I just know the fans love them and now I understand why."
I smile, shaking my head and my gaze falls on some photos hanging on the wall; photos of concerts, awards, important singers, and a music academy degree. She loves music, that's for sure.
"Do you like music?"
"Music is my life, Matt," she answers as her phone rings. "Sorry, I have to answer," she says.
"Go ahead," I say while she takes her call on speakerphone.
“Hey, Jack, did you miss me so much you can't wait until tomorrow?”
“God, tell me you're in LA, tell me you're home.”
“I am home.”
“For real?”
“Yes, I landed this afternoon. I promised you!”
“Fantastic! Hey, sis, happy birthday!”
“I thought you forgot!”
“It will never happen baby, see you at ten am in the office.”
“See you tomorrow, Jack!”
She ended the call and took the glasses as she approached me. I sat down at the piano in the living room, it always calmed me down. Yet she still makes me nervous.
"You're in my spot," she says putting down the glasses. I make her sit in my lap and her perfume envelops me.
"Do you play the piano often?"
"Not as much I’d love to. Mom was a piano teacher and it always fascinated me."
"Show me," I say, kissing her shoulder.
"Do you want me to play for you?"
"Yep."
"What should I play?"
"Anything."
She breathes in and closes her eyes as “Only You” plays in the background. She starts following the song and when the chorus starts singing she starts singing too. I am speechless; her voice is heaven on earth. I put my hands on hers as we play together and sing together. It's something hard to explain, it's like we've always sung together, so easy and natural, and her voice is amazing.
"Wow," we whisper together.
"You really know how to play," I tell her kissing her bare shoulder.
