Iknew what his reaction would be, but this was an opportunity I couldn't let him miss.
"Hey, Gabriel, how are they?"
"They are nervous, how did you arrange everything?"
"The band chosen for the evening got stuck in Tokyo and Antoine is a friend of mine and he needed a band. I took the opportunity. They will be world-wide and it's a way to get to know them more."
"You are a genius."
"It's my job," I answered winking at him. "Let's go sit down, they'll start soon."
When they are presented, the applause from the audience is overwhelming. The two songs they chose are the top to start with and strangely I expected to hear them play 'Only You', they amazed me.
The whole evening is a success, and the numerous prizes are distributed.
"Tonight I take this opportunity to call her on stage as we rarely are so lucky to have her with us. Angel Montgomery, come here honey," says Lorie, the host. The applause resounds and I get up going up to the stage.
"So we have two awards to deliver tonight, and they both go to two of your top performers."
"Oh, this is going to be fun, Lorie. I'm behind the scenes as you know, but I'll be your assistant for my boys." I retort, unleashing the laughter of the audience.
"Ladies and gentlemen, although very young, Mrs. Montgomery here has made Starlight Music Distribution one of the most important record companies in the world."
"You'll make me blush, Lorie," I say, shaking my head. “Actually the credit is due to the talent of my artists. SMD was my parents' dream and I wanted to make them proud of me."
"And they are, believe me." She says smiling. “Here's the envelope. To you the honor."
"You are wicked," I say opening the envelope. “The award for the video of the year goes ... to Leverage with the song Suits you!" The guys comes up on stage and hug me making their speech thanking all the SMD for believing in them.
After leaving the stage, the second envelope arrives but this time Lorie takes it. "This award is a novelty, an award that goes to the record companies in the running for the best based on the records received," she explains to the audience. "So for the record company with over 250 diamond records, the award goes… to Starlight Music Distribution!"
I am surprised, speechless, I am shaking but I smile.
"Wow, you tricked me up here. I knew you were planning something," I tell Lorie.
"You would never come up on stage in person, admit it, you always send your brother. By the way, did he accompany you tonight? He promised me a coffee and he never came back."
I burst out laughing. "That’s really like him. But no, tonight my boyfriend accompanied me." Lorie is pleased by the revelation. "I can't believe it, where are you knight in shining armor?" she says looking in the audience. "Show yourself, this evening is getting more exciting."
Matthew stands up, and applause resounds in the hall.
"So I guess it's your official appearance. I never saw your faces on the magazines."
"Yeah, I couldn't hide him for much longer. Plus, I bribed his band, DarkHeaven, to sing here tonight. I already know they're going to take revenge on me."
Lorie and the audience laugh.
"Then let's get them up!" She says and I would like to be swallowed by the floor. The boys comes up and stand around me.
"There is one thing I didn't know, and I would like confirmation from your boyfriend." Lorie says and I start to worry. "You sing, Angel!"
"Oh yes. She sings," Matthew confirms and I pinch him. "Ouch, it's true, love!"
"So this is the video of you two! And the 120 million views in twenty-four hours for four minutes of video, set you another record, Angel!"
"The credit is not mine, Lorie," I say and Lorie laughs, the mischievous look I see them give as she nods in agreement to Matt, this will not lead to anything good.
"We want to hear you sing together, guys. You will be the couple of the year, let's give some material to the reporters."
