Prologue
Making music has always been my dream. Guitar, piano, and drums are my refuge. I don't need anything else to calm down and disappear into a world where no one can hurt or judge me. At twenty-nine, after having done a lot of apprenticeship, I'm still dreaming of becoming The star. I'm not complaining about the success we had with those five tracks, but I would like something more. I know it's an outdated cliché, but I can still dream about it. My mother always said that big dreams always come true if you really believe in them working hard to accomplish your goals.
"Hey, Matthew, can I come in?" our manager says, opening the door to my home studio.
"Gabriel, you're already inside, what's going on?"
"Well ..." he says, smiling like an idiot. Gabriel has been our manager since the beginning and when he is mysterious I would like to punch him.
"We have an appointment at Starlight Music Distribution tomorrow."
"What? Are you kidding me?"
"No, at ten a.m., they would like to discuss a possible contract."
"No shit!"
"I swear to you, so get dressed, we're going to party tonight," he says giving me a pat on the shoulder.
SMD is every band's dream; they work with the big names in the music industry. I'd be stupid to imagine that they really want to sign us. I sent a demo months ago to SMD, because I would really like to make my dream come true, and now that they have answered us, it really seems surreal.
I leave the studio and have a shower and shave. I wear a pair of black jeans and a white shirt, and I roll up the sleeves and go downstairs where the boys are waiting for me. Dean, Craig, Ice, and Gabriel are already celebrating as Lucas kisses our backing vocalist Faith.
"He's finally here," Dean says, rubbing his hands. "Let's party, baby!"
I love my new electric blue Porsche 911. I turn on the engine and its roar makes me shiver.
Traffic in LA is stressful, but I love this city. We arrive at the Lux. We have been attending it since it opened, it is a way to work since lots of customers are related to the music world, but mostly we come here to have fun. It's the hottest venue in Los Angeles and it's a great place.
Parking in front of the Lux, we show the pass to the guards, skipping the kilometric line of people and enter. I pause at the door to look up at the sky when I hear the guards greet a stunning blonde.
"Good evening, Angel. Welcome back."
"Hi, Max. Thanks, how is Tilly?"
"She's fine, she can't wait to give birth."
The girl bursts out laughing, and I can't help but look at her. It's like I'm under a spell, I can't take my eyes off her.
"You have to wait just another couple of months. Tell her to call me if she wants a fun girlie day," she says giving him a pat on the shoulder and walking toward the entrance.
She walks past me and smiles at me as I hold the door open for her and her scent drives me crazy.
She takes off her jacket, revealing a very sexy dress showing a bare back. My mouth instantly dries up as she walks off to the bar.
"Hey, Matt, let's go to the VIP section. Is everything okay?" Lucas asks, staring at me.
"Yeah," I say, following him.
Chapter1
Angel
The Lux is packed with people as usual and I'm happy about it. I invested a lot of money to save this place.
"Hi, Tyler, can you make me a margarita, please?"
"Sure, Angel. Do you want me to take it up?"
