"Mrs. Fairlane, thank you for seeing me on such short notice."
"I try to be available to everyone."
"I understand, and I won’t take up much of your time. I thought about organizing a fundraising event for the center. I already have a list of well-known guests who would be thrilled to attend."
"Are you sure about that? Oh my, that would be wonderful. What do you need?" she asks as we sit in her office.
The meeting with Mrs. Fairlane is amazing and we’re able to plan almost all the details. When I tell her that my mother-in-law will take care of the organization, I thought she was going to pass out. As I leave the building, I call Lauren.
"Hi, Izy, is everything okay?"
"Good afternoon, Lauren. Yes, everything is fine. I have a favor to ask you."
"Tell me, honey."
"I'm the WAVC legal consultant and I was thinking about organizing a fundraiser for the center. Would you like to help me?"
"Yes, darling, you can count on me. Did you have a date in mind?"
"Yes. In two months it will be the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. That would be perfect."
"Oh ... okay. I might be able to organize everything but I don't think we can attend because we will be in Sharm el Sheik."
"That’s not a problem. I know you've been waiting for this vacation for a lifetime. Come to us for a tea so we can talk about it."
"Perfect, see you later."
I knew Lauren wouldn't say no. After all, I married her son and I know she often organizes events.
When we get in the car, my cell phone rings. "Let's go shopping and then let's go home," I say when Derek asks me where to go. I take out my phone and see a text from Dad. I ignore it and send an email to Nate. Though it has been only a few hours, I miss him already.
* I found the perfect office and I'm sure you will love it. I'll send you the photos as soon as the keys are handed over to me. I recruited your mom for a WAVC event and I'm happy about that. Does this make me a wicked person? I know it will sound corny, but I miss you already. I love you, Nate.
Yours, Izy *
Chapter Twenty-Six
Isabel
It has been three days, and I haven't heard from Nathan. I'm on my way to order my new business cards, and then I have to catch up with Dad for lunch. He wants to talk to me.
During the meeting that Dad forced me to attend, my cell phone rings. Dad's inquisitive look bothers me. I leave the room and answer:
"Weister."
"Hello, sweetheart."
"Nate, hi. How are you?"
"Tired baby, but fine. I'm sorry I didn't tell you about the guards, but I knew you’d say no. How are things at home? How are you?"
"It's okay, and I'm fine even though I miss you."
"I miss you too, but at least I have your shirt, which warms me at night."
"I knew you’d take it."
"I love you, Izy."
