We drive toward the cemetery and arrive at his mother’s grave. We turn toward the sunset.

I look into his eyes, and we’re invaded by a blinding light.

“I love you, Danny, I love you with all my soul.” His face lights up, and he kisses me.

We’re torn from each other.

Silence.

Dark.

Danny

Iopen my eyes. I’m at the hospital.

The machines make a hellish noise.

I’m back, I’m alive.

I try to get up.

“Calm down, Danny, you have a broken rib. Welcome back to us,” Andrew tells me.

“Where’s Hailey? What happened?” I asked, worried, trying to get up.

“Jeremy hit you in the car.”

“What? Jesus, where’s Hailey?”

“She’s still in a coma, but her vital signs are good. She’ll wake up as soon as she feels ready. Ingrid and Alice are with her right now.”

“Where’s Jeremy? Damn him, I’ll kill him, I swear to God!”

“He wasn’t wearing a seat belt and flew out of the windshield. He died instantly.”

I don’t know what to say. After all the harm he has done to her, I’m happy about Jeremy’s passing.

“I want to see her,” I snarled.

“I don’t think you can get up.”

“I can, and I will. Help me!”

We get in the room, where I see Hailey lying helpless on the bed.

“Danny!” Ingrid greets me, hugging me.

“Ingrid, I’m sorry for all this and for your loss.” I hug her back. Then I look at the little pink bundle in her arms.

“Alice, my little one. How long have we been in a coma?”

“Two days.”

“Shit! That’s a lot of time.”

I pick up the baby and walk over to Hailey.

“Love, wake up. Please, we need you. Please, baby. You have sworn eternal love to me, but you’re not here.”
