I close the door and hug Danny.
“Nothing happened, calm down.”
He holds me tightly. “Baby, I was going crazy, seeing you on the ground and him standing, looking at you without doing anything...”
“He didn’t do anything. The little girl turned around and hurt me. Jeremy isn’t to blame.”
“And that mark on your arm?”
“It’s nothing.”
“Did he hurt you?”
“Absolutely not,” I reply
“I love you,” he tells me before kissing me. I feel all his love, all his desire for me.
After a while, we go downstairs, laughing.
We continue our evening for a little while. Then, when I start yawning, the boys go home.
* * *
“Are you coming to bed?” I ask Jeremy, “It’s been a long day.”
“Sure, let’s go. You have to rest. Love, I’m sorry about before.”
“It’s not your fault, nothing happened.”
Danny
The eighth month seems to have tired her even more. The baby bump is wonderful. Seeing it move and kick is really exciting.
Yesterday we packed her bags for the hospital, and I saw her more and more excited.
Today is the examination and nine-month ultrasound. I hate not being with Hailey. This is the first visit I’ve missed, but Jeremy is home, and he has more right to be there than I do.
I immerse myself in reading some chapters she has sent me. Then I hear the phone beeping.
“The baby is fine, but the doctor has changed the due date. Given the size and weight of the baby, I should be in the 38th week of pregnancy. This means I could give birth at any time.”
“I’ve been dying here, waiting for the outcome of the visit,” I say. “This is excellent news, at least I think. How are you?”
“Fine. Thrilled and a little anxious.”
“Everything will be fine, you’ll see. I have to go to San Diego for a couple of days. I leave tomorrow, but I’ll be back as soon as possible. Will you be okay?”
“Sure. Can I continue on the chapters of their forced separation?”
How much I love her when she sends me subliminal messages.
“Sure. Keep in mind that he really loves her much, much more than her.”
“Hahaha, he’s too cocky.”
I smile.
The San Diego trip is endless, boring, and tiring.
