“You could come here to our house,” she replies.
Great, Hailey, you’re on my wavelength.
“What do you say, Jeremy?” she asks.
Please say yes.
“Great idea, love. Mr. Hastings, I’ll send you our location.”
Damn you, she’ll never really be yours.“Thanks that would be great. Could I bring Zoë too? She’s my dog.”
“Sure, bring her too. I’ve already sent you the location. We’ll be waiting for you.” Hailey says. She’s happy; I can hear it from her voice, and I know for sure that she can’t wait to see me. Perhaps she still doesn’t know that yet.
“Got it, perfect. I’d say that in an hour, I should be there.”
“Okay, Mr. Hastings, we’ll be waiting for you,” Jeremy says.
“Please, just Danny. I don’t like formalities.”
I hear her smile. I love that sound.
“Perfect, Danny. See you later,” he says as if we’ve known each other for a lifetime.
“Bye.” I end the call happily.
Jeans and a T-shirt are just fine. I take her a bunch of sunflowers and red and blue roses. I hope she likes them. I bring a bottle of wine for Jeremy.
I’m in front of the gate of their house. It’s impressive. She deserves to live in a place like this.
We get out of the car. Zoë is so excited that she runs to Hailey.
“Hi, babygirl! Where did you leave your owner?” Hailey reaches down to pet Zoë
They both come to greet me. God, how beautiful she is today.
“Hailey, Jeremy, sorry for the invasion, but I couldn’t help it. When she sees a woman, Zoë goes crazy.”
Jeremy laughs, shaking my hand. “A great way to conquer new women.”
“You bet!” I laugh while out of the corner of my eye, I see her shaking her head.
“These are for you to apologize.” She takes them, and our fingers touch for a second. She closes her eyes and smells the flowers
“Let’s sit on the veranda, love. We’re waiting for you there,” says Jeremy.
I clench my jaw smiling, and Hailey noticed it. I look like a kid in a hormonal storm.
Jeremy and I sit at the coffee table, talking when Hailey arrives with a tray of exquisite-looking cookies and coffees.
“Please, tell me you didn’t make them,” I tell her as I take one and feel they’re still warm.
“Baked ten minutes ago. Unfortunately, you caught me off guard, so I didn’t have time to buy sweets.”
“They are heavenly.” And they really are. I see her smiling and blushing.
“Well, then...I don’t know if Hailey told you that I sent her a draft of a book, and she tore it to pieces between corrections and constructive comments,” I tell Jeremy.
“Yes, she mentioned that to me, but I didn’t know it was you.”
