Reed:“Absolutely not, I have to be here when she wakes up. I had to realize that she got shot. It's all my fault.”
M:“It's not your fault. It’s just a scratch. It's not your fault and she has suffered worse “
R:“Yes, but I was there. Max, I was with her, my job was to protect her and I failed and now she’s not waking up.”
M:“Did you really fall in love with my sister, huh?”
R:“I loved her from the first day I heard her. It is unbelievable, I know but we have texted and called each other so many times in these days and seeing her here has been a sign of faith. Do you believe in love at first sight? Because until I saw her, I didn't. “
M:“Go rest. As soon as she wakes up, I'll call you. I promise.”
R:“okay, I’ll try. Thanks”
Silence again.
I open my eyes and there is sunshine in the room. I feel rested and get out of bed. The room spins a little but then stops. I go to the bathroom, wash my face and rinse my mouth.
“Good morning, Kate!”the nurse's voice scares me.“Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you.”
“No problem, miss. Can you please call Lieutenant Reed?”
She looks at the clock and smiles.“He will be here in a few seconds.”And indeed, just a few seconds later, the door opens and Reed comes in.
“Baby, you're awake!”he picks me up and hugs me.“How are you?”
“Very well, Logan. I would like to see Max. How is he? What happened?”
“You were shot in the arm and you lost some blood. I'm so sorry, babe””
“Logan, it’s not your fault, I knew I was hurt, I just forgot about it. How long have I been here? How's Max doing?”
“Max is fine, he's very nice and he told me many things about you. And you’ve been asleep for 16 hours.”
“That's why I feel wonderful. Wait, Max told you things about me? Oh, gosh, I am ruined!”I covered my face with my hands.
“Excuse me miss, when can I leave?”I ask the nurse
“Whenever you want, all your parameters are normal. Only… If I can make one recommendation, you should rest more. “
I nod and go to change. Max brought me some clothes. I can't wait to have a shower though.
We enter the recreation room where the guys were playing and arguing.
“Hey, guys, did you miss me?”I ask. Seeing the joy in their eyes recharges me even more.“The sleeping beauty woke up. How are you?”
“I’m good, I slept like a baby.”I answer smiling.
“We have already prepared the report, when you feel like it, you should read and sign it.”Roberts hands me the folder. I take it and put it on the table. “I can do it tomorrow.”And my gaze goes to Max.
“How are you, big brother?”I approach and hug him. I feel him tense, but then he relaxes.
“I'm fine, Kate, thank you for saving my ass,”and he reaches for my case.“I see you master them perfectly.”He hugs me and whispers in my ear“I suppose no threats are needed. He is almost as stubborn as you are.”And he nods at Logan.“Nope, no need,”I whisper in turn.
I greet the boys and head with Logan into my room.
