“You should rest. You didn't even come to dinner.”By now, I could recognize his voice anywhere.

“Logan, I don't have time for this.”

“Here, it will take one minute.”He brought me a sandwich and a bottle of water.

“Thank you.”I take them and start eating while he studies the new changes and the plan.

“Impressive what you managed to do in such a short time.”

“Thank you but it's not finished.”

“Here and here are not blind spots,”he says pointing to the sketches.

“I know, in fact. As I said, I'm not done. They have a 180 degree view but to be sure where to aim, I should see it with the sun high.”

“Tomorrow we go back but now go to sleep, please.”

I look up and get lost in his green eyes. His hand touches my fingers and instinctively I intertwine his. We don't talk, we don't move. It is not the place or the moment. And he knows it.

“Okay, but don't get used to imposing things. You’re too bossy.”

He laughs, pulling me into his arms.“I would never do that. Kate, he will be all right. I'm here for you.”

I hold him tight.“I’m going to go rest now. Thanks for everything,”I say and I kiss him on the neck and walk away. It was spontaneous and normal and I could hear him growling.

CHAPTER 9

nce in my room, I sleep for half an hour and take a shower. I get dressed and go to the meeting room. I keep working when the smell of coffee tickles my senses.

“I made a bet I could already find you here. In fact, I thought you slept more,” he smiles.

“Instead, you slept little and we lost,”exclaims Roberts.

“What’s this? You’re betting on me?”I pretend to be offended“You are incorrigible and you,” I point to Logan “don’t take their habits!”

He shakes his head “if that means being around you, I'll always be influenced willingly.”

“Let's go back to work. “

We are sitting around the table. I explain my idea and how we will act in case of an attack from all sides, how to behave and above all, how to cover our backs.

“Nobody has to be left behind, if I say something, do it without wasting time. Just a thousandth of a second of distraction and a series of catastrophic events can be triggered. Is everything clear?”I ask.

No one answers.

Hewitt shakes his head “It's you two she’s asking, we already know that,”and he hands me the case of my beloved Kunai.

“Crystal clear.”They respond in unison.

“Thanks, Hewitt. Guys we leave in an hour, see you directly outside. If all goes well, we will return in the evening,”I say starting the call to Alec who answers on the first ring.

A:“Any update?”

K:“Good morning to you, too. Yes, I think I know where Max is but we have little time. We move today.”

A:“Great and Kate… no head shots”

I burst out laughing.“I never have head shots!”I don't give time to answer before he hangs up.
