I walk towards the kitchen and connect the phone to the system I had installed last year to follow the lectures from home when I was sick.
* Siri webcam on the living monitor... * and in a few minutes I can see Logan on the 75-inch monitor. I take off the headphones and put the phone on charge.
“Put me where?”but he doesn't have time to finish his question because he already sees everything differently.“Oh wow, I love this view.”
“Only the view? Well glad you like it, now I can prepare my dinner and talk to you properly.”
“The view also includes you, you are gorgeous,”he says smiling,“and you have an impressive kitchen, too.”
I laugh.“It's my secret spot,”I wink at him.“I love cooking and it relaxes me enormously.”
“I can't wait to taste your dishes. How was your day?”
“Fine, tiring. Jetlag often knocks me out if the journeys are too long but I hope to sleep a little more tonight”.Willie puts two legs on the marble countertop where I am washing the salad. I tell him off and he sits up.“Then I'll have him to keep me safe in your absence,”I tease and he smiles. Those dimples drive me crazy.
“Can you be jealous of a dog? Because I'm starting to be.”
I laugh.
“Don't go overboard Logan, you've only known me since yesterday, Willie has been my loyal friend for 3 years. You are at a distinct disadvantage.”
He is laughing now“I will make up for it, I promise. Kate...”
I raise my head to the monitor smiling“Yes??”
“Would you think I’m crazy if I told you that I feel so comfortable talking to you that I can't wait to come home just to hug you? I know it's strange but I can't stop thinking about you.”
I'm blushing, I know, I feel my cheeks warm up“No, I wouldn’t. When will you be back?”
I see him sighing.“December.”
“Really??”my voice contains all the excitement a girl can feel when she finds out that her wish will be fulfilled.
“Yeah, baby.”He seems sad or moved.
I finish dressing the salad and sit at the table.“What's going on?”
“Nothing… it’s that is another 5 months. 5 months. Seems an eternity “
“Hey, I don't want to see you sad. Be optimist. You will return home after a long time. Your daughter will be delighted to see you.”
He smiles“Yes, Angel will be really happy and I can't wait. You are the first to know of my return. I would like to surprise her so I didn't say anything to her.”
“She will love it, you will see.”
We spend the other two hours talking about everything. About him, his daughter and me.
I start to feel more and more tired and so does he. I unplug the phone from the screen and climb up to the bedroom.
I put the phone down on the bed as I put on my black lace dressing gown before going to bed.
“It's not fair, I thought you would do a striptease number for me,”he mumbles playfully.
“Suuuure, dream about it. Maybe when you come back,”I mumble while I brush my teeth.
“I don't know what you're doing but I didn't understand what you said, I’m sorry.”
I pick up the phone and show myself.“I said you can only dream of a striptease. At least I will think about it when you come back.”
