Scrambling, they both fell over each other, running to their car. The smell of burning rubber mixed with the wasted gasoline was starting to give a nigga a headache.
“Are you out of your mind?” The cutie hopped out of her truck with her fists balled up. “You’re going to blow us all up! And you have over two hundred dollars of gas being charged to me!”
“My friend! You’re going to blow the place!” Rocky came screaming out of the door. “Put the nozzle down!”
Looking back and forth between the two of them, my eye twitched. I get the scene was a little wild, but they were going to watch who the fuck they were talking to.
Whipping my knife from my back, I aimed it at Rocky, causing his steps to falter. “Rock, get your fat, sweaty ass back in the store before I change my mind and blow this bitch to bits, and you…” I dragged my eyes toward Blossom. “Get your little ass back in your truck.”
Dragging her eyes from my knife to my face, she said nothing. It’d been over a month since the night she saw me coming out of John’s house, and it appeared she didn’t recognize me. Seeing my knife caused something to resonate. I watched her as I placed the nozzle on the hook, and I could see the moment her breathing changed. She was nervous, and she had every right to be. I wasn’t going to hurt her… yet.
“Tell me your name, shorty,” I asked her to see where her mind was. I already knew it, but she didn’t know that. “You gon’ be okay?”
“Y-Yeah, I’m fine.” She nodded before bringing her eyes to mine. “My name is Blossom,” she said quietly as she began to fidget with the bottom of her T-shirt. “Um, thank you for what you did, even though you almost killed us all. You didn’t have to do that.”
“I did.” I placed my hand in my joggers as I stepped toward her. “I wasn’t about to let them niggas hurt you or talk to you fucked up. It’s late as hell out here.” I gestured around us. “Why in the hell are you out so late anyway?”
When I first met her, she told me she had a nigga. He couldn’t have given a fuck about her if she was out this late by herself. Ain’t no way a woman of mine would be out here pumping gas at midnight.
“I was headed to grab a bite to eat, and I—you know what? It doesn’t matter.” She squared her shoulders and eyed me. My dick bricked at the sudden fire in her eyes. “Again, thank you, but I have to go.”
Turning to slide back inside her car, my heart began to beat faster than it should have. There was a dull ache that transpired at the sight of her leaving, and I didn’t like that shit.
“Wait.” I walked over and stopped her from closing her door. “Let me take you out to eat or something. I want to get to know you.”
“Listen, Mr.—”
“JJ…” I leaned against her driver’s door as I held it open. “Or you can call me Daddy.”
Her small gasp caused me to drop my eyes to her parted lips. I’d never wanted to suck a bitch’s face so badly in my life as I did in this very moment.
“JJ, I told you I’m engaged.” She held up her hand like she did the first time I met her. “I can’t go on any dates with you. Now, if you’ll excuse me…”
“Nah, that doesn’t work for me.” I frowned, holding tightly to the door to keep her from closing it. “I don’t give a fuck about that bitch nigga you call yourself being engaged to. He needs his ass beaten for even letting you come out this late by yourself. I’m not in the business of chasing women, though, so cool. You can dip.” Pushing off the door, I went into my pocket and peeled off five bills for her gas. “This should cover your gas. Be easy, Bloss Baby.”
Grabbing her hand into mine, I ignored the electric shock that passed between us as I placed the money in her hands. Oureyes locked momentarily with neither of us saying a thing. Not giving her the chance to shoot me down again, I eased my hand from hers and made my way back to my truck. For a moment, I twirled the handle of my blade as I sat there and watched her. Even though she rejected me, I wanted to make sure she pulled off safely.
After she left the store, I took a deep breath before putting my truck in drive and doing the same. This was my second encounter with little Miss Blossom, and I knew it wouldn’t be the last. She had me intrigued, and regardless of what she said, we would get to know each other. I didn’t give a fuck about her man. That nigga could either allow me to get to know his girl in peace or lose her altogether from a scalpel across his esophagus. Either way, I had my sights on her, and it wasn’t shit either one of them could do about it.
“So…You mean to tell me you met his fine ass not once, buttwice, and didn’t think to tell me? Breezy was not lying when he said these hoes ain’t loyal.”
Giggling at Stacy being Stacy, I rolled my eyes before biting into my pastry. She and I sat in the coffee shop for a quick bite to eat before work. This morning, I wanted us to go check out a property I was renovating before we went into the office. This potential buy was a shopping center I hoped to resell at a higher price. It had been abandoned for a while, but after breathing life back into it, it would be a magnificent investment for me and whoever purchased it once we were done renovating.
“Girl, it wasn’t on my mind to tell you about him because it wasn’t that big of a deal.” I covered my mouth as I chewed my apple Danish. “I will probably never see JJ again.”
My mouth was saying one thing, but my brain was screaming something else. While I didn’t know him, there was something eerily familiar about him. Every time I was in JJ’s presence, I wanted to sit him down and learn more about him. TJ was handsome, but JJ was a different type of fine. He had a strong, muscular build that made me wonder what it would be like to be wrapped up in his arms. His mocha skin was littered with tattoos, and the smell of his cologne made me want to crawl into his skin. I had to put up the internal fight of my life the other night when I saw him at the gas station. I was scared shitless when I thought he was about to blow us all up, but the moment he walked up on me and placed the money in my hand, the only fire I was worried about was the one inside of me.
“I’m sorry, and I don’t mean to intrude, but did you mention JJ?” Scotlyn, the barista, came over and refilled our coffee mugs. “He’s one of my favorite customers.”
“Can you tell me about him?” Stacy placed her elbow on the table and leaned toward Scotlyn. “Blossom here ain’t giving enough details for me.”
Looking around the café, Scotlyn made sure no one needed anything before she pulled up a seat and joined us. I sat there, mouth wide at what was transpiring.
“Hellooo!” I waved my hand in both of their faces, flashing my engagement ring at them. “I keep telling everyone that I’m engaged, and no one respects that.”
“When your man does, maybe we will too.” Stacy glared at me. “You ain’t heard from that man in two days. I don’t know if he thinks he’s Plies and going to make your mind wander or whatever, but if I have anything to do with it, you’re going toweigh your options. I want to know who JJ is in case that nigga is the fuck boy’s replacement. Now Scotlyn, who is this JJ?”
Sighing heavily, I continued to eat while the ladies talked as if I wasn’t here.
