“Did you say…werewolves?”
Chapter Six
Kip
“I did,”he admitted.
Then he went into great detail, telling me more than I ever would have thought possible. Including that if I betrayed them, they’d have me killed.
That was enough to shock me. I needed answers, now.
My head was still spinning when Mason’s phone buzzed.
“If that’s Jerk-rome, calling to tell you he still wants you, tell him to fuck the hell right off.”
He glanced at the screen. “It’s my parents.”
I rolled my eyes. “Dude, they just left us. Can it wait? Because you gotta know I have maybe a gazillion questions for you right now.”
He sighed. “Let me see what they want.” He got up and walked over to the window, speaking in a low voice.
I was about to protest when my own phone pinged. I glanced at the screen and groaned.
Mom. Great. Anyoneelsewanna call at the most worst moment ever?
I knew if I didn’t talk to her, she’d keep calling. I swiped my finger over the screen and brought the phone to my ear.
“Is there any way we can talk later? Right now we’re in the middle of some heavy conversation.”
“Which is why I’m calling. We love that you and Mason finally got together, we really do. But sweetheart, you need to talk to him now before things get… sticky.”
Which I also knew, but this wasn’t the time. “I will, I promise, but not right now. We’re figuring out our lives and things aren’t going as well as we’d hoped.”
“And that’s why you need to talk to him. Let him know?—”
“Yes, I know, Mom!” I snapped. Then guilt swamped me. “I’m sorry.”
“No, don’t be. I know I’m pushing. I just don’t want there to be any misunderstandings.”
Oh, there would be. No matter what I said or when I said it, things were going to be messy.
Across the room, Mason pressed his phone to his chest and signaled to me.
“Sorry, Mom, gotta go.” I ended the call. “So what do they want?”
“They were asking if we were available for dinner.”
I have to admit, food was the last thing on my mind.
“Do youwantto go to dinner with my parents?”
I stared at him. “Why are you askingme, dude? Doyouwanna go?”
His lip trembled. “That’s your decision,” he said softly.
“Tell them you’ll call them back,” I growled.
He spoke quietly, then finished the call, his gaze focused on me.
