“I couldn’t let the moment pass. I like you alot, Evan.”

What the fuck? Was Harry saying what he thought he was saying? He tried to pull his hand back, but Harry clung to it. He finally pulled free, disappointed at losing the touch but knowing it was the right move—Harry was involved with someone else. “I’m not sure this a good idea.”

Harry’s face fell. “No. No, you’re probably right. I’m sorry. I don’t know what I was thinking. I guess I just took what Amber said to heart and was hopeful, you know?”

Evan stared.What Amber said?

“From the look on your face, I’d say you don’t know. You have no idea what I’m talking about, do you?”

Evan shook his head, still at a loss for words. He wasn’t following and didn’t want to put his foot in it by assuming.

“Oh God, this is so embarrassing.” Harry lowered his voice. “She told me that she knew I had… I don’t know… feelings, I guess.”

“Feelings for who?Oh!You have feelings for me?” Despite everything, his heart did a little happy dance.

Harry nodded. “Yeah, that’s what I’m saying. Amber said it was obvious, and she said you might have liked me back.”

“Amber said that, that I liked you?”Jesus. Itislike being back in high school.

Harry nodded again, but this time he gave a small smile. “You keep repeating everything I say.”

“I guess I’m just having a hard time following. It doesn’t make any sense.”

Harry’s brows drew together, and his gaze dropped. “Now I feel like even more an idiot. I should have known she’d got it wrong.”

“Wait, hold on. She didn’t get it wrong.” Evan shrugged as Harry looked up.Hopeful?“Idolike you, Harry. I like you a lot. But that doesn’t make any of this right.”

“Amber told me about the two of you.”

“She did?”Jesus Christ!Fuck, he was going to kill Amber. Why the hell didn’t she let him know she’d said something to Harry and the cat was well and truly out of the bag? “So you know we’re not together?”

“Uh-huh. She didn’t go into details. She just told me the two of you were friends. I assume you’re doing her some kind of favour?”

Evan nodded. “Yeah. The jerk she was going out with had an affair with a work colleague and then dumped her. She was heartbroken but determined to not let him win and take this trip away from her as well. She deserves this adventure, so I agreed to come along with her.”

“That was nice of you—”

“Yeah, well, she didn’t deserve to have her heart trodden all over. That’s why this is so wrong.” Evan waved a hand between the two of them.

To his surprise, Harry barked out a laugh. “That’s why this is soright.”

“I’ve got to admit I’m still having trouble following.”

“You and I are in the same position. Sort of, anyway.”

“Okay, now I’m really confused.” Evan frowned. “You’re the one cheating.”

“What?” Harry drew up straight, eyes widening. “I’mnotcheating.”

“Well, what do you call confessing your feelings for another guy?”

Harry relaxed, and his easy smile returned. “I’m not in a relationship either. I’m faking it just like you are.”

Evan tried to interpret the information. “You and John aren’t boyfriends?”

“Nope.”

Evan’s breath left him in a rush. “Thank God for that. It didn’t make any sense that you’d choose to be with an arsehole like him.”
