“So, you’re opposed to those who are opposed to it?”he questioned, trying to bait Shawn.
“No, we’re simply offering peace for those who don’t wish to fight what the Mother has prophesized for us.”
“This prophecy has circled our species for centuries, how do we know she is the chosen one,” the Alpha asked, even though it was obvious everyone standing there already knew who El was.
“We’re not here to make you believe, just offering refuge for those who do,” Shawn repeated.
“You want my panthers for your own, then?”
“No, we want a peaceful union.”
“But you lions will take over things; you’re the ones offering refuge,” the Alpha continued his tone calm, but Shawn could feel his true feelings—anger.
“I’m not a lion,” Shawn replied.
“Oh, so that’s why you’re the one sent here to speak then. You’re her Panther mate.”
Shawn didn’t see the point in replying to the obvious.
“We’ve said what we came to say.We don’t want a war.”
“You’ve said that, but yet you came to my land with twenty-some of your fiercest lions.”
“We’d be stupid to wander into your land without back up,” Shawn told him.
“Oh?You just said you’re not lion, so wouldn’t this be more your land than the Pride?”
“I wasn’t raised Pantera, I just discovered my lineage. The lions are my triad brothers, and my mates other mates.Where she is, are my land and my home.”
The Alpha clapped slowly, which made Shawn want to rip his throat out.El hissed behind him.Shawn put his hand behind him, to rest on her stomach in order to calm her, but he saw the Alpha’s eyes go wide with the placement of his hand.
“Get off my property. The next time a lion comes anywhere near our territory we’ll kill it, and send its body back to you in pieces,” the Alpha hissed and then turned and walked off.
Shawn eyed the men loitering the small area as he pushed El backwards towards the truck. He knew Ryan and the rest of them would watch his back if he wanted to turn and walk back to the truck, but Shawn wasn’t about to give any of those assholes the chance.Once El was safely in the truck, Shawn walked around and got behind the wheel again, and they slowly backed down the driveway they had just driven up.Once they were on the road and well away from the Pantera, Shawn relaxed.
“Well, not only did we get our message out, but we also managed to learn something,” Shawn said, breaking the silence.
“Do you think any of those guys are going to seek refuge?I’m afraid nobody that was there will spread the word,” El said disheartened.
“They may not say it directly to someone who is for the cause, but I bet they say it to someone who may or may not tell it to someone who is for the cause, and that’s all we need.Just one to find out, and they’ll tell the others.I’d say there are lots of panthers that have become pretty good at faking their allegiance.”
El nodded.
“What did you learn?”Ryan asked from the back seat.
“They don’t know El or about Destiny.”
“How do you know that?”El asked, shocked.
“The Alpha’s face when I touched your stomach.I did it to calm you, but he didn’t take it that way.”
“That’s an edge we needed,” Ryan said.
“Now we just have to ensure that they don’t find out about her.”
