“I’m not sure how to explain who I am, El.”

“It’s simple, just say it.You kidnapped me—but wait—first you drugged me, and then kidnapped me.Not before you lied to me for years, though.I thought you were my friend.”

“I am your friend.I’m doing this to keep you safe!”Persia defended.

“Did you know who I was—what I was— before I did?”El asked.

Persia nodded.

“So, you really know that I’m not married to one man, I’m mated to four,” El continued.

Persia once again nodded.

El just shook her head as the pain tried to sneak in and take the place of the anger.El shut that shit down quick. She was pissed, and she was going to remain pissed.Persia didn’t deserve El’s pain or sadness.El was determined to not shed a single tear over someone who lied and deceived her for years.

“El, I’m your mother,” Persia said softly.

El felt her eyes get big, and then as all the emotions began to swarm inside of her, they bubbled up in the form of laughter.El burst out laughing and couldn’t seem to figure out how to stop. The woman was her fucking mother. That was priceless.El couldn’t make up the shit that was happening in her life.It was perfect that Persia was really her mother. That made total fucking sense in her new fucked up world.

“You’re my mom.Of course, you’re my mom,” El said between fits of laughter.

“Why wouldn’t you be my mom?”El continued when Persia and Willow just stared at her.

“I know it’s a lot to take it,” Persia said.

“No, it’s not.It makes perfect freaking sense.You’re.My.Mother.Duh, I mean, why not!Let me guess, Willow, here, is my sister, or hell maybe even my grandmother,” El laughed.

“No, I am who I said I am.I’m a healer and your guardian,” Willow said in her typical soft voice.

“Give it time, that’ll change,” El told her as the laughter finally started to die off.

“So,mom, you’re here to save the day, huh.My mates weren’t good enough to protect me, so you are, huh?”El mocked.

“Your mates will kill your child, in order to save you,” Persia said.

“You’re delusional. They would never harm me, norourchild,” El argued.

The amusement was gone, and now El just felt anger.Persia had no right to speak about her mates, and what she presumed they would do.If Persia was even telling the truth about being El’s mother than she had spent El’s entire life lying and living in the shadows. She had left El to her miserable life without a second glance.

“I’m leaving,” El said, standing up.

El took in her surroundings for the first time. They were in a small apartment living room that just had one couch and one love seat. The living room was open and adjoined by the kitchen, with a small dining table off to the side. The kitchen had a little island in it; there was just enough cabinet space around the stove and kitchen sink for a few cabinets.El assumed that the doorway off to the left led to bedrooms and a bathroom.Although it was small, the apartment was accommodating. Her eyes finally landed on the door, so she made her way over to it.

Much to her surprise, she couldn’t open the door. She locked and unlocked it a hundred times, but the door wouldn’t budge.

“What’s wrong with the damn door?”

“It’s spell protected.Nobody can get in, orout,” Willow told her matter of factly.

“I don’t understand why I can’t leave. My mates will not harm me or our child, and even if they would, how the hell would you know?”

“El, please sit.I’d like a chance to explain,” Persia said, extending her hand back to the couch.

“Why on Earth would I listen to what you have to say?You abandoned me!You abandoned my father, who for all I know of him is a self-righteous asshole, but apparently that might have been different had you stuck around.I couldn’t care less what you have to say,” El told her.

“It’s not that simple, El.I wanted to stay.”

“Then you should have.”
