A lot of people didn’t have the patience for the elderly, but that hadn’t been the case for El.Maybe it was because her grandfather had been the only person to ever show her love, but El loved any and all interaction with the elderly.

“You may change your mind after your visit. They’re pretty much at your disposal, so whenever you want to go over there, one of us will take you.”

“Thank you,” El gushed as she rushed over and kissed Ryan’s cheek.

“I love you, El,” he said softly.

“I love you, too.”

Marcus and Trip looked on at them both with soft smiles on their faces.

“Now, who here hasn’t eaten breakfast?I’m starved.”El chirped.

“I can always eat,” Trip announced.

“Perfect, I’m cooking,” El told him.

“You cook?”

“Yes, I cook.”

“If you’re cooking I’m hungry, too,” Marcus said, joining them.

“You want anything?I can bring it to you if you’re busy?”El offered to Ryan, who was back to looking over papers on his desk.

“I’m fine, thank you,” he replied.

El, Trip, and Marcus took off to the kitchen.El knew they had a cook, but since her morning seemed to be progressing normally, she felt ready to conquer the world or at least the kitchen. When she walked into the kitchen, she was intimidated, briefly. The space was larger than her entire apartment. She had seen large kitchens having grown up in a mansion, but she’d never been allowed to cook in it.Persia had been the one to teach her the basics of cooking.

Persia was a trained chef, tended to get a bit technical, but El had enjoyed it all the same.El wasn’t a phenomenal cook, but she did like to be in the kitchen some.Breakfast was her most favorite meal to cook because she loved all the sweet and savory bits breakfast had to offer.

Trip and Marcus took up seats at the large island in the middle of the kitchen and watched.El headed to the refrigerator first to see what was at her disposal. She was pleased to find everything she needed for one of her favorite concoctions: French toast with barbeque jelly marinated little smokies. It sounded weird, but it was fantastic.

She gathered all the necessary food ingredients and set them on the counter. Then she moved to the task of finding all of the equipment she would need.It didn’t seem like it would be that hard to find a griddle and a pot in a kitchen so huge, but it was.Chefs were weird like that and had things in weird places.El had always told Persia she kept things in weird places, but Persia said it was just the way she had been trained.

El made a mental note to call Persia later.

“What are you making?”Marcus asked.

“You’ll see,” El replied cheerfully once she finally found the necessary stuff.

She began mixing her sauce for her little smokies, and once she had that ready and the little smokies simmering, she moved to the task of her French toast. As her first round of French toast sizzled, she then went on the search for powdered sugar. Finally, El found the powdered sugar. She hustled back over to her cooking and flipped her French toast and stirred the pot.

Marcus had gotten up at some point and fixed her a cup of coffee just the way she liked it.

“You’re the best,” she said, giving him a brief kiss on the lips.

“You’re especially chipper today,” Trip commented.

“I know.I woke up today, and I wasn’t being rushed somewhere or attacked.I don’t feel like my beasts are overtaking me, and my mates are all in one house.I know it’s a false sense of normalcy, but I’m taking it, and I’m going to enjoy the heck out of it.Who knows what the rest of the day holds.”

“That’s true.It does seem weirdly quiet around here,” Marcus replied.

“Oh no, don’t do that. It’s quiet because things are fine. We’re going to eat breakfast and drink coffee, then if all the shit wants to hit the fan so be it.”

“What smells so good,” Shawn asked when he walked in to join them.

“I’m making my famous French toast and little smokies,” El told him.
