“If she’s half as stubborn as you, it’ll take a damn dungeon to hold her.Regardless we won’t need to make any promises.I won’t lose you, El, none of us will.”
“I know, but I just want you all to be prepared.Just like Willow said the Mother could make me pregnant if she sees fit that I pass on, and then it’ll happen.You all need to be ready for that.We can’t find destiny.”
“I pray that our Mother wouldn’t give you to us just to take you away.”
Chapter 11
Ryan
El and Ryanshifted and roamed through the woods careful to stay close to the path Shawn had shown El.Ryan tried to just enjoy his alone time with El, but the words she had said before were haunting him.
Willow was no doubt correct in her thinking.The Mother would ensure that her will was done, but Ryan could not accept a world that El was not a part of.For the first time in his life, he was questioning the Mother, and he didn’t like the feeling.
El came to a stop in front of him, jolting him from his thoughts.Ryan took in their surroundings, thinking she had sensed some kind of danger, but instead, he realized she was just taking in the breathtaking view.They had reached a small clearing at the end of the wood line that overlooked a deep ravine.
The mountains in the distance made a beautiful backdrop to the vastness of the ravine.El sat on her hind haunches and looked over the scene.There was calmness to her that Ryan had never seen in her before while she had been in her lioness form.Every time El had shifted thus far in her life,it had been out of necessity, or she had been forced.Ryan hated that this was her first time she and her lioness had found peace.He also had to wonder if she was able to choose which beast she wanted to shift into since he hadn’t seen her in her panther form in a while.
El looked back at him, beckoning him with her eyes to come up and be beside her.He walked up and sat on his hind haunches as well, their sides touching.His lion rumbled with pleasure at being able to enjoy the touch from his mate in her lion form.
Ryan said a prayer to the Mother that there would be a day he and El could experience this kind of tranquility together again.
They sat there for well into an hour before El finally looked over at him.She was thinking the same as him that it was time to get back to reality.They took off back through the woods, moving at a quicker pace than before until they reached where their clothes were still stacked and shifted.
“I’m surprised Trip didn’t come out here and take my clothes,” Ryan joked.
“I can see that being the kind of thing Trip would do,” El giggled.
“Yes, always the prankster.”
“Thank you for going with me,” El said, tugging her yoga pants up her legs.
“You’re welcome.May I ask, if you chose to shift into your lioness?”
“No, I just followed your call to shift and didn’t really know what I would get until my paws hit the floor.I can feel my panther when I’m in my lion form, but she doesn’t seem to mind.Maybe my lioness is just a bit more alpha than my panther,” El said with a shrug.
“Maybe, I just wonder, though, since Shawn is your panther’s mate, if he would shift with you if you would shift into your panther?”
