Once they were in the room, El started to tell Willow her thought, but her lioness hearing kicked in, and she could hear the men’s voices downstairs. If she focused, she could listen to exactly what they were saying, which meant they could easily hear her conversation, and she knew at least one of them would be listening.

Willow must have sensed her discomfort because she put her finger to her lips.El then pointed to the door and then her ears, hoping Willow would understand that El didn’t want any prying ears listening in.

Willow’s eyes lit up mischievously, and then she closed her eyes, and soft words fell from her lips. When Willow opened her eyes, El halfway expected a poof of glitter to appear in the air or something, but nothing seemed different.

“You didn’t want them to be able to hear our conversation correct?”Willow asked.

“Yes.”

“I placed a protection spell over us, they can’t hear us, but we can hear them. It’s limited though, your Alpha mate is quite strong, so he may be able to break my barrier if he decides he wants to.”

“Okay, well this will just take a second.I need you to see what you can find out on the Pride’s most trusted healer, Claudia.Something about her hasn’t sat right with me from the beginning, and the more I’m learning, the more I think she may just be the healer who delivered me or know who is,” El explained.

“Claudia,” Willow repeated.

“Do you know of her?”

“No, but I can find out.”

“Thank you.I hope you don’t think I’m being treasonous going behind my mates’ backs, but I don’t want to take this to them without anything to back up my suspicions.”

“Understood, my Luna, I’m happy to help,” Willow replied sweetly.

“Ugh, we’ve got to drop the Luna thing, just El.”

Once again, Willow didn’t say anything, she just smiled softly.El was beginning to think there wasn’t going to be any way around getting Willow to drop the Luna thing.El hoped she could convince others more easily, though; she had no intentions on being the Luna of anything.

Chapter 9

Trip

Trip knewthe second Willow had placed a protection spell around her and El in the room. His lion wanted to go barging in and demand entrance, but the male part of him knew he was already on thin ice with his mate, and he didn’t want to create any more friction. He just kept telling himself that not only could El handle herself, but that the Pantera healer would be crazy to try something on El with all of her mates just a few feet away.

“What do you think, Trip?”Ryan asked.

Trip had no idea what they had been talking about, so he just shrugged.

“You haven’t been listening, have you?”Ryan asked.

Shawn was eyeing Trip suspiciously but didn’t say anything.

“No, I don’t know what you’ve been discussing,” Trip confirmed.

“We were discussing which of our elders might have heard of this legend.I think George would be a good place to start.I don’t want too many people to get wind of us asking around about it.El doesn’t need any more attention than she has already received,” Marcus explained.

“I agree.”

Shawn’s mother cleared her throat. The small woman didn’t look capable of having birthed or raised a giant of a man like Shawn, but Trip knew that shifter mothers were extraordinary beings. He then realized that none of them had treated her with the respect she deserved as a mother-in-law.They had barged into her home and all but treated her as if she would harm El.

“I’m so sorry we’ve been very rude.My name is Trip, your new son-in-law.This is Ryan, our Alpha, and Marcus,” Trip said, moving around Ryan to stand in front of Shawn’s mother.

“Nice to meet you, son.My name is Heather.”

She took Trip’s hand and patted the back of it lovingly.Trip had a feeling she was soon going to be his favorite of his mothers-in-law.

“Trip’s right, we’ve been embarrassingly rude,” Marcus said, stepping forward to hug Heather.

“Forgive us, Shawn, your mother deserved a better welcome to our family,” Ryan said, before moving in after Marcus to hug Heather as well.
