She grimaced but stepped back toward the desk. When he saw her take a seat, he nodded and headed for the door.Standing in the entryway, she could watch him without causing too much of a disturbance.Although, she could only imagine that the strength of her scent was as pungent as ever.
“I didn’t tell you because when I found out you were fucking El.”
“And her safety isn’t more important than my fucking orgasm?”
“No,” Marc snarled.“Of course not, but it wasn’t exactly the right moment, was it?Then, all this other crap with your mother and El’s weird shifting habits have gone down.Throw in the issues with the bombing and searching for Jessa and then the hold up at the club… We’ve had a pretty full fucking schedule.”
Silence fell at his declaration, but the only thing that was stuck in her mind was the phrase: ‘El’s weird shifting habits.’
She gnawed at her lip.
Tired of being classified as weird, she decided to stop biting her lip and start gnawing at the inside of her cheek instead.
Goddammit, could she do nothing normal?
Why couldn’t she just be a boring human?
Why did everything have to be so fucking complicated?
“Stop that right now, El.”
Ryan’s voice boomed down the intercom and through the door too, making her jump.
“Stop what?”she demanded, pouting a touch in response to his snarl.
“Stop thinking that you’re a freak.”
“How can I stop when everything about me is so beyond weird I might as well be an alien?”She flexed her jaw.“I mean, can I do nothing the normal way?”
“There is no normal way,” Marc said, his tone as soothing as could be.
She rolled her eyes.“You’re not making me feel any better.”
Steps sounded in the hallway and she knew Shawn was on his way. When he popped his head around the door, she held up a finger to her mouth to stay his tongue.
A sigh sounded down the intercom.“Look, let’s just deal with this meeting and when the officers have gone, we’ll discuss this in more detail.”
Trip sounded as calm and as reasonable as he usually did, but it irked her.She wasn’t feeling calm and reasonable. She was feeling agitated and pissed off.
Gritting her teeth, she just said, “Sure.”It was easier to do that, and she didn’t feel like arguing in front of the cops either.
Shawn frowned but wandered deeper into the room.He remained silent, seeming to sense there was a reason she was out here and not in the office with the other men—he always had been great at reading between the lines.
“This changes things, sir,” Erickson said next.“If the Luna is related to the Pantera leader, then… your liaising with their Council is imperative.”
“I know.I’ll have Adam reschedule us a meeting with them.”
“Are they pissed off at the Pride’s failure to show up at the last meeting?”
Ryan grunted.“When aren’t the Pantera pissed off and looking for a grudge, Marc?”
That meant they were.It wasn’t like it was their fault either—being blown up hadn’t exactly been on anyone’s goddamn agenda.
She narrowed her eyes, disliking these Pantera bastards without having to try all that hard.
The rest of the conversation was pretty much a rehash. Her mates asked for updates on recent events, and the cops had very little to offer by way of proffering more information.
As far as she was concerned, nothing had been learned by the cops in all the time they’d been working on the case.
