Ungainly, inflexible, and unyielding. They were all adjectives that could describe her.
Well, couldhavedescribed her for the majority of her life.
She wasn’t anymore.
She could climb and she could run and she could do shit she’d never even thought about before.
On top of that, she could turn into a fucking Panther.
So yeah, this was a week for big news.
Like the fact Lions hated Panthers.Like the fact her mother-in-law hated her because she was Pantera, and not even because she thought El was a bitch or anything like that.
This was… what?
Species prejudice?
What.The.Actual.Fuck?
Her mother-in-law would have been fine with her being a human, but a Panther?
That was apparently a no go.
With her spidey senses on red alert, she pricked her ears to make sure none of her men were around. She really couldn’t deal with them at the moment.
Dealing with parents-in-law and then the fact someone had tried to murder her mates was just too much for any one woman to process in a week.
At least, El thought so.
With a grumble, she trekked across the garden in the opposite direction to Pride House.
She’d spent some time there last week when there had been a ceremony out over that way. There wasn’t much there, but there was a pavilion.
She’d thought it had been constructed for the party but it was still there a week later; she could see the small tower roof through the trees from her window.
All around her, there was land.It was like she wasn’t in space-poor California.Hell, water-poor, too.
Though they’d tried to conserve liquid gold and had gravel paths everywhere rather than grass ones, there was still a lot of greenery everywhere.
Green needed water.
Considering she helped on many charity boards that handled drought-riddled areas in Africa, she felt really guilty for trudging through grasslands that had sprinklers all over the goddamn place.
Still, this was more than just a garden.
Lions, honest to God, Lions came and roamed here.
Funny how a week ago she’d have been scared about coming across one. Now?Yeah, she still wasn’t too sure about how to shift, just knew that she needed her mates to revert from Panther to human form, and that if she was freaked out enough, she’d turn into a big cat.
Being attacked by a Lion or Lioness constituted as worthy of freaking out, she figured, so guessed she’d be safe and her Panther would come out to party to save her ass in the event of an emergency.
Trudging toward the pavilion, she palmed her cell phone in her pocket. She needed to talk to her friend, Persia.
They’d shared a few texts, and El had called a time or two since Ryan, Marc, and Trip had come into her life, but nothing major.
Persia would forgive her because she herself was busy with her bakery. But, at the same time, she still felt guilty because she’d told her friend she’d call more.
Trouble was, how could she share any of this?
