“Grayson, how about you go to your room now and close the doors behind you? Your brother and I need to finish this meeting with Lisa in private.” Again, he spoke with his eyes solely on me. He refused to let me out of his sight, eyeing me with determination. I’d be a fool to miss the gleam of evil in his eyes.
Shit, this was too much.
“No,” Jared surprised us all.
Good for you, Jared.
“Excuse me?” Daniel finally looked away from me, gazing at Jared with absolute rage. “I think you’ve forgotten yourself, Jared. Leave, now.”
I looked at Jared as well, seeing a young man so frightened but willing to stand up to his dad for the sake of a stranger. For me. I couldn’t let him get hurt, so I would do what I do best, and just take the abuse they dished out.
I literally asked for it.
“I’ll be fine, Jared. You’ve seen me.” I winked at him, hoping to ease his troubled mind, but he lingered a moment longer, obviously not convinced. “Please go, I’ll be fine.”
I eyed my phone that was at the center of the table near his, hoping he would understand to take it. Maybe he was great at picking up hints and could see that I was begging him to call someone on my phone. Literally anyone on there. Thank god, that for once something went my way. He picked up on my hint, grabbing my phone and leaving without his father noticing.
“I’ll be right outside the door. If I hear anything, I’ll call the cops,” he threatened his dad, to which he only responded with a deep chuckle.
“No, you won’t, son. You never do.”
Oh, Jared.
I watched as Jared slid the doors closed, maintaining eye contact with me the entire time. The moment those doors closed, Daniel’s hand was wrapped around my neck, pinning me down against the table.
“I believe I am owed an apology. You can either use your words, or I’ll use your body.”
My heart felt ready to explode as adrenaline shot through me. I would not let this happen to me. I would not allow him to touch me like that ever.
“You’ll get neither from me,” I strained to say as his grip around my neck was constricting.
“I was hoping you’d say something like that.” Daniel gave me the most wicked smile I had ever seen. It sent a chilling fear through my body, making the hairs on my arms stand. “Chris, come hold her hands.”
Like hell.
I lifted my leg up, pushing him off me with my foot on his chest. I slid up on the table as he took a step back, releasing my neck. Only I was met with Chris’s hands, now grabbing my shoulders and holding me down. I swung my legs up, lifting my hips, and thanking god for my years of gymnastics that have kept me flexible.
I folded myself over, kicking Chris in the head. My body spun as he let go of my shoulders. I stood on the table, running towards the door. My feet broke a few plates as I pushed hard. I couldn’t fight them both off me at the same time. I was not that experienced yet.
I need to get out.
My face hit the cold hard wood of the table with tremendous force as my ankle was grabbed, pulling my legs out from under me. I felt the blood gush out of my nose and the familiar taste of metal filled my mouth as my teeth sank into my cheek. I turned with a groan, kicking at the hand that gripped my ankle until my other leg was grabbed as well.
I wiggled as hard as I could, sitting up and trying to punch them. My mind was in a panic, forgetting everything I had been taught. I couldn’t reach them from my sitting position, missing them with each punch, only further exhausting myself.
“Let me go!” I yelled.
“Chris, get the door, before your brother comes back in,” Daniel ordered him, sounding angry that I had yelled.
Chris let go of my ankle, but not until Daniel had a hold of it. They were smart, almost as if they’d done this before.
Was this their sick way of bonding?
Chris locked the door, and for good measure he tied his belt around the doorknobs, keeping them closed shut. He turned to face me, looking so pleased with himself. He seemed almost excited as he approached me. The color left my face, as my fate was ultimately sealed. I had only myself to blame. I took it too far, played it unsafe. Now here I lay at the mercy of the two most vile men I know.
And I thought my dad was bad.
"Lisa, Lisa, Lisa," Chris tutted as he came towards me.
