I felt strong finally saying what I needed to say to him. My eyes locked with his in a deadly stare down, one I refused to lose. I won't be his pawn any longer. Davis was right. He was just a man with money. He was not untouchable, just difficult to get to.
I would find a way though and then I would take this place for myself and let it burn to the ground so he could watch as the thing he worked so hard for crumbled before him.
Revenge sure was sweet sometimes.
"You don't know what you're doing, Lisa. I promise you'll regret it."
"If you come for my girls, that includes Liv, you won't live long enough to ring in the new year. You haven't faced someone like me before." Davis was quick to remind Dad that he wasn't the one holding the power here.
My Viking was saving me again, keeping me safe like always.
18: Deep Inside
Davis' P.O.V.
"Did she find it yet?" Derek's voice echoed around the empty room.
"She did," I answered him, feeling so proud of my Lisa.
She had snuck into her father's office while he was meeting with the Darnell’s and found the ledger, taking as many pictures as she could. I couldn't believe it when I got them all. I, of course, scolded her for going alone, but she had a point when she said it would be too obvious if I had gone with her.
"Perfect. Anybody we know on there?"
I knew Derek was asking about our friends. Have any of them gone dirty over the years? I was happy that I didn't know a single name on that list personally, although I have heard of a few in passing.
"Not any of our friends, Derek. They've stayed good and true. Real boys in blue."
"Good, send me the list and I'll start working on it."
"You got it! Oh, and Derek?"
"Yeah?"
"Tell me when you're going for him. I want to be there."
"Gladly."
With that, the line was cut off. He never says goodbye. I stepped out of the empty master bedroom, continuing to check the safety of this new house. I won't be buying this place for Izzy if it isn't safe enough. She needed a house now that she was starting her career. A place where she could weld at home and hone her craft. This place had everything I had been looking for. I just need to make sure it has good enough security.
"I'll take it," I told Betty, my realtor, once I was satisfied with my inspection.
"Perfect, I'll draw up the paperwork. Should be able to close on the house by the end of the month."
"Sounds good. Thank you, Betty."
That would give me enough time to buy everything she would need for the new place. It'll be my graduation gift for her. She had done so great and I was extremely proud of her.
I felt like yelling when I got another itch on my cast leg. I hate this damn thing and I swear I was going to tear this thing off with my bare hands if it didn’t stop soon. The ping on my phone from Lisa’s text was a welcomed distraction.
Lisa: Where are you?
Davis:Coming back to you now. I'll be home in 10 minutes.
I quickly texted her back, hopping on my bike. It was difficult to ride with the cast and it definitely got me odd looks from passersby. Still, I didn't want anyone to know what I was up to, not even Lisa, so I had to drive myself. For some reason, she and Izzy had become thick as thieves. I mean, I was glad they were getting along, but I worried that she liked my daughter more than me at this point.
It didn't take me long to get home, pulling into the garage and killing the motor. The quiet was almost deafening after the constant rumble of the motorcycle's muffler. I opened the door expecting to see Lisa on the couch, but she wasn't there. I looked in the kitchen, thinking maybe she was making herself something to eat, but nothing.
"Lisa?" I called her name, hearing silence in response.
