“Will you come with me?” Thierry bit out impatiently.

“Lead the way.”

CHAPTER 25

“Iam pissed at you,” Nix informed Persius, who sat on the cement ground in front of her cage.

The sunshiny pegasus shifter flinched and smiled ruefully. “Because of the spell?”

“Because of thecage.”

“Thierry said it was for your safety and the safety of others.”

“Like I would hurt someone?”

“Nix…you burned the dorm building. It looks like one of those human-made bombs went off in the east wing. If students had been in their rooms instead of at the dance…”

Nix bit her lip and hugged her knees to herself under the blanket they had given her. “I don’t deserve to be kept in a cage like this.”

“I’m sorry,” Persius said in such a sweet and genuine tone that it pissed her off even more how difficult it was to hate him. Adar had wanted her to stop caring about the other men, but… Persius was just so…

“I missed you,” Nix whispered to him, knowing he would not understand because he did not have the memories of theirfuture together. Of the kind words and horrible torture that they enduredtogether. “You were my light in the darkness.”

Persius tilted his head in confusion and stared at her through the bars of the cage.

“Won’t you please let me out of this cage?”

“The guys would be pissed if I did.”

She fingered her bottom lip, petting it with her thumb. “And what if I’m pissed that you don’t?”

Persius shrugged. “An enchantment would make you angry toward anyone trying to help you break the spell.”

“Seems a little too easy,” Nix remarked, trailing a finger down the front of her neck. “That you guys think the only reason I’d be angry at you is because I’m bespelled.”

“We are trying to keep you safe. If the council found out about you…” Persius shivered and leaned toward the bars.

Apparently, iron did not hurt Pegasi because he laid his forehead over the bars to feel closer to her.

He told her, “The council has found it a habit lately to exterminate the rarest and most powerful shifters.”

“But you will keep me safe,” she whispered to him, smoothing her finger down her collarbone, down, down, between her cleavage.

She shrugged the blanket off her, revealing her naked form in the cage. Her smooth skin prickled with awareness under his hot gaze.

In a breathy, pleading voice, she asked him, “Won’t you let me out, Persius?”

His eyes widened as he stared at her bare breasts. She leaned over where he pressed his face in between the bars. His mouth hovered a mere two inches from her stiffening left nipple.

“If you let me out, I’ll still be perfectly safe. Because I’ll be with you.” Nix wanted out of the freaking cage and was not aboveperforming a little seduction to get what she wanted. Heck, it turned her on to know she had so much power over him.

Yes, she loved Adar, but Persius was just so…pure.

Sunshine as a human. He wore an almost visible golden halo as far as she was concerned. Plus, Persius was Adar’s friend. Surely, Adar would understand her feelings for Persius.

His pupils were dilating into wide black spheres as she dangled her nipple near his mouth.

“I just want you to hold me…” Nix shivered, swaying her breasts before his eyes. “I’m chilly in here all by myself. Won’t you let me out so you can hold me?”
