The men all glanced at each other like they all shared the inner thought of a sarcastic “Yeah, right.”
“You’relying,” she snapped. More flames poured from her pores. A few caught fire on the bed sheets. As the bed lit up behind her, emitting a thick black smoke, she exclaimed, “You don’t want to bring him back.”
“Uh, uh, no. Not lying,” Persius whispered to her. “Shhh, breathe. Take slow, deep breaths.”
“Calm,” Ryker grunted again, rubbing her flaming shoulders.
Her naked body trembled as she tried to control the anger and the flames.
“That’s it, suck the flames back in,” Persius said. “Let’s not burn the dorm building down with people potentially in it.”
“I’m glad the asshole is in Hell,” Bael said, stretching out on the floor and smirking at her.
“Not helpful, Bael!” Persius laid a hand over Nix’s head. “Shhh, remain calm. Don’t listen to the psychotic incubus.”
“I don’t know,” Bael said, smiling. “I’m kind of curious about the damage our little phoenix can do.”
“Stop,” Ryker warned Bael.
“He bespelled my mate to like him and groped her tits. When the spell is broken on you, babe, you might fall to your knees and suck my dick to reward me for my quick thinking. Hell, maybe you’ll still be mad at me because you would have wanted to send him to Hell yourself.”
Ignoring him, Persius said, “We need Professor Bowen to work a potion to reverse whatever enchantment they cast on her.” Persius petted her hair as if she were a frightful animal. “Nix, can you remain calm enough if we go to the professor?”
Something about these men urging her to be calm after her lover was justirreversibly sent to HELLgrated her nerves.
“I wonder what torture the demons are putting the asshole through right now,” Bael mused. “Think about how delicious the swan boy’s screams would sound.”
An explosion of flame burst from Nix’s skin.
CHAPTER 24
Cool cement pressed to Nix’s cheek as she slowly twitched awake. A soft and plush blanket was thrown over her naked body. Sleepily, she swiped a hand over her drooling mouth, and her eyelids fluttered open.
Her body jerked.
She was…in her cell.
In her cage.
Had she just jumped time into the future?
No. No, no, no. How had she gotten captured? She had alpha mates in this second life.
She let out a heart-wrenching shriek and flung herself against the metal bars. Nix wailed as the bars seared her skin.
At the pain and the scent of her burning flesh, she peeled herself off the bars and stood back in the center of the cage. She had forgotten how the metal bars burned her in the past.
“Careful,” a masculine voice sounded. “The bars are made of iron, which is known to harm phoenixes.”
Professor Thierry. Thank goodness. He would set her free—
Nix swung her head around to see him. Standing outside of her cage, staring at her, were Thierry, Persius, Ryker, and Bael.
“This is fucked up,” Bael remarked and crossed his arms.
“She burnedhalfof the dorm building. In seconds,” Thierry said gravelly. “We were lucky everyone had already left for the dance, and there were no casualties. You should have come and found meimmediatelywhen you scented her back on campus.”
“You think you’re better at calming her down than Pers and Ry?” Bael scoffed.
