“Professor Bowen gave it to us and said it was a protection potion,” Bael said. “She’s not lying.”
“It needs to be poured onto his skin. It should remove any current spells.”
Ryker moved forward, holding it. Persius put his hands up to reject it, but Ryker uncapped the tiny vial and tossed the liquid right onto Persius’s naked body.
“What if that was acid?” Persius yelled in alarm. “I’mnaked. And I—”
Persius stiffened.
“I don’t know how long it takes to happen,” Nix said.
Persius’s back hunched over, and he slammed a hand to the wall. “Oh…gods.”
He clutched at his chest then at his head as the potion liquid sizzled and smoked over his skin. Once every drop absorbed into him, Persius pressed his face into the wall, showing only his naked back to them.
“Persius?” Nix asked, hope leaking from her.
Will he know me now?Or was this new timeline really a cursed one?
CHAPTER 15
Persius’s neck craned as he tilted his head over his shoulder to glance at the rest of them. His eyes were closed, but his nostrils flared. He scented the air, lowered his head, and trembled against the wall.
Somethingwas happening. That was clear.
Persius groaned and fell to his knees. “No,” he shouted and rammed his head into the wall. “No, no, no.”
Not the reaction she expected. “Stop him,” Nix urgently told her mates as she tugged at her remaining right wrist and right ankle in the ropes.
He kept smacking his head into the wall. Again and again. A loud roar of thunder sounded over the ceiling as a pounding of rain came down over the house.
“What’s happening?” Nix wailed. It sounded like the heavens were opening up and every cloud pelted rain directly onto the roof of the house.
“Fuck,” Bael mumbled as he grabbed at Persius and tried to pull him from the wall. Persius escaped him, swerving around and launching himself onto the bed.
As Persius laid on top of Nix, lightning struck just outside the bedroom window, lighting up the room.
Persius’s desperate and heart-wrenching expression pierced through Nix’s chest. “Mine,” he whispered in a cracking voice of sorrow. “Mate.”
“Yes, I am. I am yours.” Nix tried to comfort him, but she only had one free hand to caress over his damp, wavy locks. “Get me out of these ropes, damn it!” she demanded to the others, and they quickly released her.
Nix wrapped her arms around him, and he nuzzled his head onto her chest. “Shhh, it’s okay,” she told him.
Persius lifted his head just enough to roar onto her breasts.
“Fuck, calm down,” Bael told him.
Thunder boomed outside again.
Persius’s lips moved against Nix’s chest as he said, “I touched her.”
Nix blinked.Oh. Not only was Persius overwhelmed at Nix’s scent as his mate, but he was also realizing what he did while enchanted.
The guilt.
“I touched her when I had a MATE.”
Lightning struck the window again, this time zapping and crashing so loudly that Nix wondered if it could actually pierce the house.
