Lucian insisted I wear his cut over my lounge set, and he’s wearing another one. All the guys have cuts on, too.
“Loco,” Lucian says, and a scary-looking guy walks over to us. He has a scar through one of his eyebrows, long, pulled-back hair, and a scruffy beard. What makes him the most terrifying is his eyes. Dark and emotionless. He stands in front of us, and I shrink into Lucian’s side as he looks me up and down. “I want you and Chump to stay with Evie. Don’t leave her at all, no matter what.”
“Got it.” His voice is flat and matter-of-fact.
I wait until the man turns to walk away before looking up to Lucian. “I don’t need anyone. I can stay with you.”
“They will separate us to make sure I’m not influencing you. I don’t want Justin to get his hands on you.”
“But I’ll be okay. Don’t worry, you don’t have to have your men babysit me. I don’t want them to think I’m weak or a burden.”
Lucian leans down into my space. “Sweet cheeks, you are never a burden. Don’t be afraid of Loco; his bark is worse than his bite. Besides, he knows you’re mine.”
“Don’t count on it,” Loco raises his voice. “My bite is deadly. Although some beg for it.” He gives a sinister chuckle as he clicks his teeth together as if biting, and I can’t hide the fear. Lucian embraces me, leaning down to kiss me when we are interrupted.
Spider approaches. “They have a warrant now. I don’t know what judge gave it to them on a Sunday afternoon, but they are coming in.”
“Let’s go,” Lucian says, and every man stands. As a group, they move around us toward the entrance. I look behind me and find Loco standing there. His lips tip up on one side in somewhat of a smile, and he nods his head.
Turning back to the front, I watch where I’m walking, my comfy slippers silent along the marble floor as we walk through the vestibule entrance until we all stand on the front steps. Men move down the stairs, and I recognize Hammer and a couple of the others. It bothers me that they are all doing this for me.
“We have a warrant to search the premises for Ms. Rezos.” A man in a suit holds up the paper; Justin stands behind him with a smirk on his face.
“As you can see, Ms. Rezos is perfectly fine and right here. You don’t need to go any further,” Lucian counters.
“We can search everywhere.” The investigator raises his voice and starts pushing past the men who stand their ground.
“Stop right there,” a voice says, and I instantly recognize it.
Glancing in the person’s direction, I watch as Boone slams the door on his classic ’69 Chevelle Malibu. I’ve ridden in that car a few times. I bet my dad sent him here to help us out. I’m so glad because he’s one of the best attorneys at the firm.
Boone’s long legs eat up the distance, and before you know it, he’s standing next to the cop, ignoring Justin. He’s never cared for Justin.
“Who are you? I’m Detective Stanley Grimsley with the Rhode Island State Police Detective Bureau. I’m investigating a kidnapping.”
Boone looks toward me with a smirk. “Well, as you can see, Ms. Rezos is standing right in front of you. I’m Boone Greenwood, attorney-at-law, and I represent Ms. Rezos and the club.” Boone takes the warrant from the guy’s hands. “This warrant only allows you to search for her. Nothing else. You can see her. Speak to her if you want.”
Lucian’s hand tightens around me, letting me know he doesn’t want me away from him. The detective looks at me and then at something in his hand. I imagine it’s a picture of me. He turns to Justin.
“She’s right there, as you can see. I don’t see her in any distress.”
Justin pulls the detective toward him, and they whisper.
“Hey, Princess,” Boone says to me, and I smile.
“Hello, Bo. I’m so glad Daddy sent you.” From beside me, Lucian grumbles, and I look at him. His jaw is so clenched that I imagine his teeth are protesting the strain.
“Don’t call her princess. She’s mine,” Lucian growls as Bo makes his way to us through all the guys.
“Relax, Prez, she’s yours, but she’s like a little sister to me. I’ve known her since she was a kid in ponytails.” Bo pulls me from Lucian’s grip and hugs me tight, lifting me off my feet. “Girl, the shit you get yourself into. I couldn’t believe it when I heard you got back together with that limp dick.” He chuckles as he sets me down and points to Justin, not so discreet in his proclamation of feelings for him, and all the guys laugh and snicker at the new nickname Justin acquired.
Lucian pulls me against him once again. My back to his chest, his arms wrap around my waist, keeping me close.
“Ms. Rezos, please step away from your kidnapper and come talk to us,” the detective orders me.
I look up at Lucian, who releases me with a nod. Bo walks with me, and I feel Loco just behind. I also turn to see another man. He’s skinny and young, maybe my age, but he looks younger. He reminds me of a young Jared Leto, but not quite as cute. This must be Chump.
Bo’s hand goes to the small of my back to direct me. “Hands, Law,” Lucian barks, and Bo just laughs, throwing his head back.
