“You said you were going to… have sex with me,” I whisper.
Neo’s eyes widen. “First, I said I wanted to fuck you. Whether or not that happens is totally your call, Caitlyn. I’m not going tomake you do anything you don’t want to do,” he insists. “Second, do you not like sex?”
I’ve never had sex that was enjoyable. Therefore, the answer to that is a strongno. But when I look at Neo, there are urges—ones I’ve also never had before.
“It’s not at all what the movies and books claim it to be. It’s not that great,” I admit.
“You just haven’t had it with the right person if that’s your view.”
“Maybe.” I shrug.
“I don’t know who hurt you, Caitlyn, but I do know that I’m going to find them and I’m going to send them right back to hell,” he says. “Now, next time you don’t like something I say or do, just tell me. I don’t want you to be afraid of me.”
Yeah, that’s never going to happen.
“Okay,” I agree anyway, because I don’t know what else to say. “I really should get home.”
“You are home. I’ve arranged for movers to meet us at your apartment in two hours. You’re taking my guestroom,” Neo says.
“I can’t do that.” I shake my head at him.
“Why the fuck not?”
“Because I can’t. I don’t belong in a place like this. I can’t afford it.”
“I told you it’s rent-controlled. Are you really going to leave me high and dry without a roommate? I’ve been searching for months, and you are the first person I can actually see myself living with.”
“You don’t need a roommate, Neo.” What he needs is a doctor to examine his head. He’s inviting a total stranger to move into his fancy-ass mansion. “You don’t even know me. What if I came here to steal all your fancy things?”
“People don’t steal from me, Caitlyn, but go for it. I can replace anything you feel the urge to take.” He shrugs again.
What does that mean? People don’t steal from him?
Before I can ask or get the courage to ask, Neo stands. “Breakfast. Did you decide what you want to eat?”
“Whatever you’re having is okay.” I take his offered hand and let him pull me up from the sofa.
Chapter Nine
Iam not a soft man. There isn’t anything about me that screamsgentle. Which is why I have to remember that I can’t be my usual pushy asshole self with Caitlyn. That’s notgoing to make her feel comfortable around me, and I need her to be comfortable because like fuck do I want her to leave.
I’ve never wanted to share my space with anyone. I don’t even like having visitors. This is my sanctuary, a place I can relax. Well, other than the basement. Then again, what happens in thereisa form of meditation. For me. Not the poor suckers who find themselves chained to my rafters.
“Sit down. I’ll wait until you’re ready to tell me what you want to eat.” I’m good at this, at waiting until I get what I want.
“Argh, has anyone told you how infuriatingly frustrating you are?” Caitlyn groans, and then her eyes widen with fear.
I laugh, not because of her fear but because of her words.
“Damn, bro, finally someone not afraid to tell you what an ass you are.” My brother’s voice comes from behind me.
I spin on my feet. “What the fuck are you doing here? And how the fuck did you get in?” I growl at the little shit, who just smirks and walks right past me. Towards Caitlyn, who still looks like she wants to throw up.
“Hi, I’m Lex. You must be the new sister I’ve heard about.” He holds out a hand to her.
“Don’t touch her.” I slap his arm away. I trust my brother. I do. But Caitlyn isn’t a fan of being touched by men. Well, she’s getting used to me touching her, or at least holding her hand.
Baby steps. We will get there.
