“About time.”She smiles and gets up.Patting my shoulder, then exits the office.
My phone rings, and Louie’s face splashes across it.I rush to answer the call.
“Heya, honey, how you going?”
“Hey, good thanks, Mum.How you going?”
“Good here too, thanks.Have you had a chance to see Nonna and Nonno?”Louie’s not due back to Rally for another few weeks and has returned from Western Australia and is staying at mine.We didn’t get as many trips to see my parents as we had hoped so he was determined to fit some visits in to them.
“I got to see them yesterday. They are looking good.Planning to see them in a few days if they are up for it.”
“I’m sure they love seeing you.”
“It was good to see them too.”
“Many plans while you’re in the city?”
“Just meeting with friends as they come through town and can spare some time to see me before I head back.”
“Don’t work too hard.Micah was telling me you guys all worked long hours to sort that chassis issue out.”
“Ah, Micah was brilliant. She needs a raise.”
“I’ll see what I can do.She’s just been through busting my chops.”
“What are friends for?”
I laugh.“This is true.”

March - Phillip Island, Victoria
Theendofthefirst month of races on the Island marks a superb start to the season for Ghostly Flux and Infraction32, but it’s early in the season.Anything can happen. The teams have packed up the pit boxes, but I pulled out two of the older bikes we cart around.
Picking up my phone from the bench, I message Rayna:
I have a surprise for you in my pit box.
You know we aren’t in our 20s anymore? There is too much hard concrete and a need for unusual positions.
Not that kind of surprise.Though you have given me some ideas.;)
I’m intrigued.Coming.xo
Tossing the phone back on the bench, I’m already in a leather racing suit and I have pulled one that will fit Rayna along with helmet, boots and gloves.
She floats around the corner, smiling as her eyes hit me.
“What’s this big surprise? Why aren’t your bikes packed up?”She scans the bikes and confusion furrows her brow.
Gesturing towards the gear, I offer.“We didn’t get to hit the road on your bike over the summer.Thought we could take these around the track.Get you back into it with no traffic.”
She contemplates, biting her bottom lip.She finally smiles through her trapped lip."I don't know.Triumph team owner on a Ducati…"
Rolling my eyes at her repeating my line, I laugh."You got any new stalkers I need to go pummel?"
