“What are you doing?” I locked eyes with her, terrified of the icy fury I found.

Dom towered over me with a lethal growl. “You’re not going anywhere. Not as long as I’m breathing, Viper.”

“What the fuck?”I looked down at my shaky fingers, which Dom had nearly taken with her when she slammed the door. “What is wrong with you?”

I glared up at her as I tried to shove her away from the door, tried to wrench the knob free from her iron grip. But she pried me off the door with ease, flicking me back like I was little more than a gnat.

“Are you stupid or just suicidal? I said you’re not going anywhere.”

An incredulous laugh bubbled up from my chest. “That has to be a fucking joke. Yesterday, you couldn’t wait to be rid of me, and now you’re trying to hold me hostage? You can’t do that. I’ll call the cops.”

The rage in her eyes crystalized into something sharp and pointed. “Threaten me like that again, and we’ll both regret it.”

“Will we?” I sneered. “Or are you just afraid of rotting in a prison cell if I tattle?”

Spencer and Leo still lingered somewhere in the foyer, but they were the least of my concerns. My eyes flicked to the door again. “Let’s make a deal: you let me go now, and I forget allabout whatever fucked up shit you’ve got going on here. We never have to see each other again. I’m nobody to you.”

Dom let out something between a laugh and a snarl. “If only it were that simple.”

As she stepped forward, it was clear that the front door wasn’t an option. There were plenty of places to hide in a house this big, though.

Throwing my bag down to trip her, I took off in a sprint down the hall. But I made it all of two steps before her tattooed hand was tangled in my hair, hauling me back by the base of my scalp. “We’re not playing hide and fucking seek, Kiera.”

“Fuck! Let go!” I thrashed, swinging my fist behind me blindly. But as my knuckles grazed her hip, I realized I’d have been better off punching a brick wall.

“Stop behaving like a child and I’ll stop.” Dom growled, grabbing both of my wrists with her spare hand.

“Dom, that’s enough.” Leo thundered, marching forward from the living room doorway with her fists clenched.

Spencer’s usual softness was replaced with a dangerous fire as she tried to pry Dom’s grip loose. “Get your fucking hands off of her before I take them off for you.”

My heart thundered in my ears as my gaze shifted between my two angels, springing into action to save me once again. And now I know exactly how far they’d go.

But while I took some small solace in their protection, it broke something inside of Dom. I could feel her grip on me tighten, muscles tensing as she shouted. “Don’t you start with me after the mess I just walked into. All of this is your fucking fault.”

“You think I don’t already know that?” Spencer’s face crumpled, rage and sorrow fighting for dominance. “If you’re so fucking mad, then take it out on me instead.”

“Dom.” Leo’s voice took on a stoney edge. “If she wants to go, let her go. We fucked up. There’s no need to make things worse.”

“Oh, things are about to get worse.” Dom laughed, a bitter sound that rumbled through her chest and mine. “I’d love nothing more than to get rid of this pain in the ass, to let all of this go away. But we’re stuck with her now. The Oracle demands she stays.”

The what?

I was completely in the dark, but I watched as a crushing realization washed over my saviors’ faces. Instead of wrenching Dom off of me, they exchanged an uneasy look before taking a step back.

“What the fuck?” I thrashed. “What’s The Oracle? What’s happening?”

But they couldn’t even look me in the eye as Spencer moved to grab my bag.

“Don’t touch her like that again.” Leo locked eyes with Dom before stepping out of her path.

Dom scoffed, hoisting me over her shoulder into a fireman’s carry. “No promises.”

Dangling over her shoulder, I couldn’t see where we were headed, but it didn’t take a genius to feel that we were moving up the stairs. I slammed my fists against her back, desperate to knock her off-balance, even if it sent us both tumbling down.
