“Why?” Pity is thick in his tone and the look in his eyes makes me cringe, I don’t want his pity!
I wave him off not wanting to get into it. “Do they have a lab or no?”
He shakes his head. “No, everyone just has their laptop or iPad.” Hope flees me and I nod. I’m not sure if my dad froze all my accounts or not. Dad never gave me a laptop or an iPad for school so I know I am going to stand out in all my classes when I’m the only one who uses a pad and pen.
To teach is to learn. To learn is to excel. To excel is to thrive. To thrive is to live.
I repeat the mantra in my head as I try to ground myself, I can’t shake the feeling that something is amiss here.
“Let’s go, we have to get to class,” Brady says, pulling me from my thoughts. I nod and follow after him. I try to keep myself from falling into my thoughts, knowing all it will do is bring me down further. “I have to warn you,” Brady says quietly. “We have a few classes together and there is someone else who is in a couple of those classes and I know he doesn’t like your family, so you should steer clear of him.”
My skin begins to prickle with awareness. “Who?” I breathe out.
“Xaden Devlin.” My face drains of all color and my breath lodges in my throat. He’s the captain of the Stormsend Ravens and if the rumors are true about his family, he is the prince of the largest mafia family in the country.
The very same family my father has devoted his life to taking down.
CHAPTER SIX
XADEN
Somerset prides themselves on being rich and flawless. They hide behind their wealth whereas here in Stormsend, we hide nothing. We allow the world to see what we wish them to see while conducting ourselves properly behind closed doors. With the business my family conducts we don’t need the added attention of the outside world or from the new fucking senator in Somerset.
I have a plan, it’s simple and brilliant really. Destroy Toren, break Masen, and then I go after their piece of shit father and show the world he is a slimy fucking snake.
“Heads up, they’re here.” I follow Cas’s line of sight to see Brady and Toren enter the main building. Toren’s face is a mask of confusion and worry. I fight not to smirk. I want her out of her mind with fear and terrified daily that it might just be her last day on earth. I won’t end her miserable life quickly. I’ll take my time and slowly drive her insane before I finally slide my knife across her throat and take the cunt out. “What’s the plan?”
“Let her find her feet for a few days. I want to lull her into thinking she is safe and then we’re going to pull the fucking rug out from under her,” I snarl.
“Her daddy’s gonna try and bail her out.”
I turn and face Caspian, his eyes are dark and filled with the need for vengeance. “He won’t help her. He left her here to rot. She’s fair game, and breaking her will fuck with her cunt of a brother’s head. I want to destroy them both before we go after their cunt of a sperm donor. We are going to rid the world of the Kellar name.”
“You want them gone, gone?” he asks, with a hint of surprise in his tone.
“An eye for a fucking eye,” I sneer. I watch from the cover of the trees in the quad. Just the sight of her alone has my hatred rearing to new heights. She is more than a fucking snake, she is the worst of the Kellars. She’s a wolf in sheep's clothing and lulls you into believing she is some angel when in truth, she is Lilith in skin form.
Everything about her is made to draw you in. Her long straight blonde hair makes her appear kind, her big blue eyes suck you in and make you feel welcome. Her pert little button nose only serves to enhance the beauty of her face, her body designed to have you taking a second look. The shy good girl act she has going on allows you to think she is easy prey, but I know better. She was raised by wolves and will rip your fucking throat out the first chance she gets.
“There was a time I would have broken jaws for that bitch.” The loathing in Cas’s voice runs deep. “I loved that cunt like a sister.”
“You gonna be able to go through with this? I want her demise. I want to break her beyond repair before I slit her throat, slice her lips from her face and add them to my treasure chest.” To anyone else my words would have them paling and running but not Cas, he enjoys the fruits of my labor and has even started his own collection of fingernails.
“I’ll make a necklace out of her nails and hang it around her brother’s fucking neck.” A dark smile crosses my face as I nod.His bloodlust calls to my own. The thought of slicing her creamy skin has my mouth watering as anticipation builds inside me.
“I’m out, brother. It's time to turn the bitch’s world upside down.”
“Have fun. I’ll stay back so she doesn’t spot me.” I nod and take off toward the building, a plan formulating in my head. Toren Kellar may have no idea who I am, but I know for a fact my reputation precedes me and her brother would have mentioned something about me or my team when we beat them.
I keep my distance and watch as Brady begins explaining the layout of the school, the look of pure awe on her face has me grinding my molars. The fact she is even here is a disgrace. I thought Maddison was full of shit about her being here. Lo and behold, she was telling the fucking truth.
“Oh my God, it'stheToren,” one of the girls sneers as they walk past, heading toward their first class. Her shoulders hunch and she ducks her head.
“Stop being aToren.” Another snickers and the group of girls begin to laugh. Brady ushers her away from them and around the corner. The instant the girls spot me they all snap their mouths closed and plaster on their most seductive smile. I‘ve never had to work to get laid. It comes easily to me as women throw themselves at my feet. The fact these bitches stand there and practically parade themselves as if we are at an auction isn’t a turn on, their desperation reeks and has me biting back a growl. I ignore them and follow after Brady, I’m ready to make my move and show this lying little cunt that her life is as good as over, then Caspian darts in front of me and shoves me backward into an empty classroom.
I push into him and get right in his face. “Trying to protect the little bitch, are you?” I snap. His eyes darken and he presses his forehead against mine, releasing a deep growl.
“Watch your fucking tone, Devlin. I’m not one of those pussies you can order around.” His words hit hard and I pull back. Caspian is the only person who can get away with speaking to me like this. Neave and Miles were my backbone, they kept me grounded and now that they aren’t here, that job has fallen to Cas. He didn’t come to Stormsend to befriend me or to grow his social standing, the first time we saw each other our fists did the talking.
