“Get the fuck out of here, Toren!” Harper shouts. She flicks her green eyes to me and I groan internally at the spite in her eyes. “Let her go. You fucking take me and you let her go now, Devlin!”
I fake a sigh as I’m contemplating her offer. I rest my chin on Toren’s head and shoot Harper my best puppy dog eyes.
“But, we thought you might want your friend here for support?” I say in a mocking voice that has Toren flinching.
“You tell us what we want to know and we’ll make this quick,” Cas promises as he grips the wench that controls her chains and smacks it, making her cry out in pain as it tugs on her joints.
“Stop it!” Toren screams, as she fights against me to get to her friend. Tired of her bullshit, I grab a handful of her hair and yank her head back hard. She cries out in pain. I ignore Harper’s bullshit threats as I glare down at the nightmare I’ve been fucking.
“Do the fuck as your told or I’ll chain your ass up beside that cunt,” I roar right in her face. The bitch doesn’t shrink away orcower in fear, she just holds my stare with an angry look of her own.
“Take me.” I raise my brows in surprise, maybe baby Kellar does have balls. “Trade me for her.”
“Toren, no!” Harper shouts, but she ignores her as she continues on.
“You said it yourself, I’m the princess of my family. Chain me up and let her go, then send pictures to my brother. Use me, not her… please.” Panic for her friend's safety laces her words, but I smell the stench of her desperation.
“That’s an appealing offer, Tink, except I need you at the game tomorrow so I can get inside your brother's head.”
“Fuck you. I’m not doing anything until you let her go!” she snaps.
I look over at Cas and nod. He releases the wench, making Harper scream. Toren screams for him to stop and he does, right before her feet hit the water. When she jerks to a stop her pain filled scream reverberates around the shack.
“Harper?” Toren calls out in a panic.
The brunette slowly lifts her head and tries to mask her pain, but fails. “I’m okay,” she grits out through clenched teeth.
Toren drops to her knees and buries her face in her hands. She gets it now. She’s finally seeing the world she fucking lives in and it’s ruining her.I’mruining her. When the time comes, she’ll be fucking begging for me to end her suffering.
“How did you get to her?” I ask Harper. The hatred in the bitch’s eyes only fills me with glee. She knows she’s not getting out of here alive and is trying to hold onto whatever dignity she has left before she meets her maker.
“I didn’t.” When she sees Cas shift out of the corner of her eye, ready to drop her ass to the bottom of the lake, she pushes on. “It was by chance!” she screams out in desperation. Her fear is feeding the monster inside me that craves for her demise andrelishes in the destruction of his enemies and their blood coating our skin. I love the metallic tang of it and how it tastes when I slice them and it splatters across my face. I love licking it off my lips.
Toren snaps her head up and stares at her friend. When Harper focuses on her, remorse shines in her eyes.
“What?” The broken bitch on her knees breathes out dejectedly. Harper scrunches her eyes closed and drops her chin to her chest. “What do you mean you met me by chance?” Toren screams.
Harper slowly lifts her head and the look of guilt in those brown eyes has me smirking and feeling fucking elated inside.
“Everything I have ever said to you is real. I swear it?—”
“Get to the fucking point!” Toren yells, as she pushes to her feet and moves to the edge of the jetty, staring down at her friend that she trusted, only to find out the bitch was betraying her.
Fuck, it feels so good to stand back and watch this. I’m feeding off her pain and love seeing the hope inside her die slowly as she learns every person she knows and loves has only used her. She’s utterly alone, unwanted and hated.
CHAPTER THIRTY-NINE
TOREN
To teach is to learn. To learn is to excel. To excel is to thrive. To thrive is to live.
I’m trying to keep my composure as I repeat the chant over and over again, forcing my hand to remain at my side so I don’t reach for the pendant that no longer hangs around my neck. I feel it in my bones that Harper has secrets, and when I find out what she has been hiding from me, it’s going to rock the foundation of my being. She’s all I have. Without her, I have no one on my side, no one to have my back and be there when I need them.
“I was meant to remain inside that fucking shit hole for years and rot,” she says brokenly. “Then one day, they told me to pack my shit because I was being released.” I frown.
“How did you get out ofthere?” Harper knows that Xaden and Cas have no idea that we were both in Walter House. Even though I am angry and confused right now, the fact she is still keeping my secret is appreciated.
“Meekan,” she says his name with distaste. I keep my hurt from being broadcasted across my face.
