He may look like his brothers, but he doesn’t exude that same sadistic aura like they do. Well, did. Rot in pieces, Josh.
My hand grips the rifle tighter as the slow burn of fury reignites in my stomach. “Where?”
Quinn takes Teagan’s hand and struts to the door. “They’re in the escape room.”
“Wait!” Lexi stops and points to the computer. “We need to destroy the footage. We can’t let this see the light of day. We owe that to everyone who came before us.”
Quinn walks back in and sits in the chair Lochlan occupied earlier. His dark hair falls over his eyes while he types something. “There. All we have to do is type the password.”
Lexi scoffs, raising her eyebrow at him. “And I’m guessing you know what that is?”
Quinn’s answering smile is devilishly charming. I totally get what Teagan sees in him. “It’s our father’s name.” He types in each letter slowly as we watch.
H-E-N-R-Y
“Henry? Like the butler guy? That Henry? He’s your father?” Teagan chokes out, pointing to the screen where Henry and Pierce continue to fight.
Quinn nods and presses enter. The screens all go black before our eyes. A blinking bar appears, showing all the files being deleted in real time. “Done. And yes, that Henry. He made us all prove our worth to him. Atlas is his last hope of keeping the family traditions alive. He’s done a great job of it all, hasn’t he?”
I gnaw on my lip. “And how do you feel about us lighting this castle on fire and leaving them to die within its walls?”
He stands and faces me, his face alight with emotion. “I’ll finally be free.”
We follow Quinn out, weapons and Paws in hand, as he leads us to the other side of Windermere. We make a few stops to grab some supplies. I’ll be damned if I don’t give Allison the one thing she asked for: ashes. It doesn’t take long before we are all standing in front of the door that leads to the stone stairway of the escape room.
How fitting that the place that started this all will be where it finally ends.
Teagan:
Welcome back to Live, Laugh, Murder! Teagan Shepherd here! I’m here with my beautiful co-hosts, Capri Kim and Lexi Casburn.
Lexi:
Alright, my little murderers! What’s the absolute WORST thing that could happen in a thriller novel? The sky is the limit!
Capri:
For starters, the death of anyone who isn’t the bad guy.
Teagan:
Yeah, that puts a real knife in the story, now wouldn’t it?
Capri:
They could be trapped in a haunted house with ghosts who only haunt the place at night by dropping the top 20 hits of the ’90s.
Lexi:
Or worse, elevator music.
Teagan:
Could you imagine a gaggle of ghosts just jamming out to elevator music all night long?
Lexi:
Hey, it’s better than ghosts twerking on your face at midnight.
