I flush as I take in everyone’s eyes on us.
“How did they see us?” Lexi asks through tear-stained cheeks.
Lee grabs my hand and points to the giant television behind us. “I only saw the last bit,” he admits. “But I’m guessing everyone was able to watch the entire thing on that.”
Everyone just watched me turn on my best friends for their own amusement. What kind of twisted place is this?
Teagan:
Welcome back to Live, Laugh, Murder, your go-to spot for all your thriller needs! I’m here with co-hosts Lexi Casburn and Capri Kim to talk about the thriller book,Running With Children, by our favorite A. M. Pierce.
Capri:
Content warning disclaimer! We are going to discuss how the use of children in thriller novels can affect the outcomes of certain stories, specifically A. M. Pierce’s novelRunning With Children. Spoilers ahead!
Lexi:
We want to know, do you think you’d fight harder to survive if a childwere in your care during one of these twisted scenarios we find in almost every thriller novel?
Teagan:
Would you push yourself to the brink of death if you knew a child’s life was in danger?
Capri:
Could you put a stranger’s child’s safety before your own?
Lexi:
InRunning With Children, we know the FMC is taken hostage while on vacation on a cruise ship. She finds that her cabin neighbors have been brutally murdered, and their five-year-old son is missing.
Teagan:
And keep in mind, our FMC has never met this child, but she still spends the duration of the novel searching in vain for him. By the end of the story, she has to choose: her life, or his. I won’t give away the ending to those who haven’t finished, but I will tell you that it’s one of those books that haunt you forever.
Capri:
Would you choose a child’s life over your own?
Lexi:
I don’t know if I could answer this without getting myself cancelled.
Teagan:
That’s because you’re a woman, and as a woman, we are born to be responsible for the safety of children. If we were men, then your answer would be totally forgivable.
Lexi:
What would you do?
Capri:
I would without a doubt sacrifice myself to save a child. Kids are supposed to be protected at all costs. Children are the only pure goodness left in this world.
Teagan:
For someone who doesn’t want children, you sure have the heart of a Mama Bear, Capri.
